Here's an article I found. ETA: Actually it's blog.

Idol links with McDonald's for Happy Meal toys 2.0
Buzz up!

I believe I mentioned something about the first iteration of McDonald's' American Idol-inspired Happy Meal toys, but the new selections, making their debut today, consign the old ones to the Happy Meal Stone Age. "Both fun and hip," according to the McDonald's press release, these eight toys each play a tune reflecting the genre the character is meant to represent.

None of the toys is patterned directly after a specific Idol, yet a couple of the names are oddly suggestive. You'll pick 'em out -- the genre-specific lineup of toy characters comprises Disco Dave, Rockin' Riley, Lil' Hip Hop (surprised there isn't already a rapper by that name), Hippie Harmony, Country Clay, Soulful Selma, Punky Pete and New Wave Nigel.

Customers can visit www.happymeal.com until May 8 to choose their favorite among the eight toys, so if anybody wants to launch a drive to flood the ballot box with votes for Country Clay or New Wave Nigel, I can't see what could prevent you.

If Nigel Lythgoe is indeed a model for one of the toys (and I have no hard evidence that this is actually true), I think McDonald's ought to consider (for 2009) a line of Happy Meal toys inspired by the judges. Simple Simon is a slam-dunk, and Ramblin' Randy (or "Real" Randy?) and Parroting Paula sound like solid possibilities as well.

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but those are old toys. Someone on another board got one yesterday because her McD's was probably cleaning out the happy meal toys for the new year.

Personally, I kept rocker, and mohawk, in honor of the audition fauxhawk.

They do not play songs, they just play really obnoxious noise. Again, I've had mine since early May.

Yeah I do think those are old but that Elvis look alike is my favorite. I was trying to take a picture of them in a line for you guys but couldn't get it to get a picture. They are hilarious! Push the mohawk and it make a sound lol
