In Loving Memory of Adam Cook

Recommended Posts

David announced at the Race for Hope today that his beloved brother Adam lost his battle with brain cancer last night. We may not have known Adam but we have an idea how much he meant to David and to everyone in his life and he will be missed.

It was the start of 2008 when American Idol brought the amazing David Cook into our lives. While David was on the show, we learned of his brother Adam and his incredible battle with brain cancer. While respecting David and his family's right to privacy, we have quietly watched as David has given us the occasional update of his brother's condition. And now, with the recent news, our hearts and prayers go out to David and his family. In this time of grief, as a fan, one wonders what we could possibly do to help. And the answer is HUGE.

In honor of Adam, we would like to open this never ending support thread where the light will always be on and Word Nerds can offer their condolences, thoughts and prayers for Adam, David and their family. Feel free to accompany your post with a candle which we will be adding to this thread's first page. So let's set this thread ablaze with all our love for them.

You can also light a candle HERE

We also have to add that the Home will not undertake any collection amongst members, or allow any members to start a collection thread to donate to any charity on this occasion out of respect for David's and his family's desire for privacy. However, we have opened a thread HERE to make memorial contributions as expressed by Adam's family to:

Kendra, Gage, and Gracie Cook Trust
c/o First Financial Bank
P.O. Box 540
Terre Haute, IN 47808-0540

Of course, each one of us can continue to make our private and anonymous donations in Adam's name to the charity of our preference, especially those devoted to the cure for cancer. Following the example set by David, together we will make a difference. We will fight this terrible disease and whether it takes one year or 1000, we will find a cure!

We also want to quote David's own words "thank you to everyone for allowing us, as a family, to grieve and come to terms privately."

This is devastating news, I am so very sorry to hear this. I really am at a loss for words. Thoughts and prayers to David and his family.

Honestly, other than well wishes, I think the best thing we can do is to keep donating (or getting others to donate) to Race for Hope - keep raising money for the cause he believes in so strongly.

Good point JB0046. I think you can celebrate Adam Cooks life by donating to the cause. From all accounts he was an amazing husband, father, son and brother. There is sadness in death but I think we should celebrate Adam Cook, who he was and all he did while he was here.

I am also at a loss for words. This is so upsetting.......I just hope David and his family find the strength to get past this, and hopefully get back to the closest normal they can.

I am so sorry David.

To David and his family,

So in this time of sadness, below is some poetry I'm written over the years to help in the upcoming healing process.

Stay strong (which I'm sure all of you will be). Your fans are always with you.

Sarah Dillon

Quote :
In Our Hearts

With memories of long ago
A face of kindness gleams from above
With a smile not seen in years
And a heart larger than the highest mountains
Giving to others themselves
When they are not there on earth

Your soul gleams eternally now
In the minds and souls of others
That remember your kindness
Worn on your sleeve at all times
And the compassion that was shown on earth
Might be given away forever

We have remembered you
Can you remember us?
The time on earth passed you by
We on earth have memories
That were sent to us in appreciation
For everyone to see again
When time becomes no more

Truly, you are in our hearts

Quote :
( Untitled)

You are blessed at all times
With a soul like no other
And a smile that melts away fear
But it is hidden presently
By the despair and struggle of a loss
That could possibly not go away

Dry away those tears of sorrow
From the pain that life has caused
And whisper a sound of gladness
Hiding under a storm of despair
For in all times of struggle calling
A sound of triumph will appear
So smile now. You are loved.

You are loved for all times
Just be sure that all will be well
Do not worry, for your will be loved
All your friends will reassure
That you soul will be heard now
So just show your love all around
Your friends are near

Quote :
A Creation of Peace

Glistening of starlight
Hearing the water stream down
Peaceful, this world we must live in now
Of the past that we can
See the love shine in the past

All have their memories of little children
Splashing and boating in a small pond of the past
And surrounding around blazing campfires
And always remembering the voyage they went on
In the greenery and the darkness
Of distant summer passing from long ago

The memories of peace from long ago
Of childlike innocence and wonderment all around
Discovering the world in their life’s travels
And learn to grasp it when you grow up
To spread good cheer and peace to the world

And when these children become adults
On a quest on what the spirits are telling them
The memories of their days of youth
Allow the thought of harder times
To flow in a creation of peace
And the calm of younger lives
That all might have forgotten

Glistening of starlight
Hearing the water stream down
Peaceful, this world we must live in now
Of the past that we can
See all peace on earth

Quote :
To God’s Children

My love everlasting,

An air of grief, a sound of silence
A light of darkness in a shining grove
Such as I write to you, my dear
From here on earth while you’re away

I am so sad to see you leave me
You’ll be my heart that beats forever
You’ll be my soul that will not depart
Your spirit will sooth the rage inside me
But your face not I will forget

I feel a thousand smiles from your spirit
Touching my face as soft as snowflakes
Feeling a universal love so strong
That our separation will never be eternal

You’ll leave your shell
And live inside me
Through all eternity
God will being peace right now
And it will begin with me

Your soul,

Oh David, I am so sorry to hear this news. I'll be praying for you and your family during this difficult time. There's a poem that comes from the Ty Beanie Baby that was made in honor of Princess Diana, and I think it's suitable here:

Quote :
Like an angel [he] came from heaven above
[He] shared [his] compassion, [his] pain, [his] love
[He] only stayed with us long enough to teach
The world to share, to give, to reach
