It may or may not work at first, but if you keep trying, you can get two females or males to mate. Here's how you do it.
1.) click on the mate icon at the bottom of your screen NOT on the pet.
2.) Type in the first letter of the name of one of your pets
3.) select that pet
4.) This can only work if you have another pet with the same first letter if you want to mate two females or males.
5.) select the other pet. you might have to try a few times to get it.
6.) you can also attempt to mate the pet with itself, but it tends to freeze up the game

Does this ever get a success? cuz i havent been able to get 1 success with breeding the same sex.

yes, it worked for me once, i just had to keep trying, it should work eventually

It worked for me too. i tried doing that with two different species but it was a continuous loop of that song thing and the heart didn't go away, so i guess doesn't work with that. i wuz sad.... I wanted a dog/cat thing.....
