Most Memorable Night!

Recommended Posts

Lots of candidates toss around in my mind about the most memorable night at the Racearena.
The most obvious choice is the night Ted Abbott died. Not a very happy moment and one we'd like to
forget, but it was something we won't forget. BTW, I'll say it even though nobody does, LeBlanc caused that one.

Another was the night Danny Gallulu wrecked all the top runners, one at a time and very meticulously
during the feature. Remember the atmosphere later that night!? Bob Reilly in Jake Velleiux's brand new 66 wrecked it's premier night out of the box.

Another great moment was Nicky Giardina flipping into the Pits knocking the hat off of Wild Bill Greco's Head,
not to mention the numerous Billy Boo exits!

How about the night Gino Spada single-handedly put an end to the "Match-Race" fiasco!!!!
That was the most hilarious since it was the most foreseeable thing to happen in the world!

And who can forget the famous "Let's Go Chick" chant the night Stockwell beat Lajoie to 50.

And finally, the last night of the Fair. I'll never forget the closing of the Budwieser stand!
Write in with yours, or elaborate on the moments I've just mentioned.

I don't know where you were the night Ted abbot died, but I was sitting ten rows back and about 20 seats past the starter stand when it happened. LeBlanc was three cars back from the whole thing and ran into the wreck from behind. Maybe the reason no one talks about it is cause its not true. Seems unfair to blame a guy who had nothing to do with it.

If I remember correctly, and it's been a long time, wasn't Popowski leading the pack (or was it Leblanc, I get those two mixed up) and swerving and it was that caused the whole mess.... But in reality, it was just another typical Racearena accident from that period, and they were pretty horrific. I remember Rezzy popped up over a wheel, I think Denis Pierce's, and cartwheeled into the starter's stand.

The problem was that having the starter's stand just about hanging OVER the track about 10 feet high was just a tragedy waiting to happen.

Danbury was very lucky not to have more terrible things those last few years. I remember cars constantly flipping out of the ball park, cartwheeling into the parking lots, reindeer, the pits and remember Bo Gunning flipping into the catch fence and almost into the grandstands except that his rear bumper hooked a light pole and stopped it!?
