Help me with my Dynojet Stage 1 questions

Recommended Posts

Ok as my warrantee is almost up on my B12 thinking of Dynojet stage 1 kit. It’s a MK1 B1200 and standard apart from an Art can which says it’s not for road use. I've got a K&N air filter which I'm thinking of fitting next weekend.

I’m not going to go for pods as I do a lot of wet miles and thought the standard airbox would handle this better

So I have a few questions for all you people out there with experience:

Are these kits easy to fit?
How long do I put aside for the fitting? (am I looking at a whole day)
Will I need to get a garage to tune/do anything after the kit has been installed? (I was going to carbtune myself anyway)
Am I looking at a great MPG decrease?
I’ve seen them for £106 is this a good price?

Is there anything else I should consider when going through this? (+5° timing advancer?)

Sorry for so many questions in one post, I have read a few bits here and there which do help with some of the questions.

Q: Are these kits easy to fit?
A: Yes if you are ok taking carbs to bits.

Q: How long do I put aside for the fitting? (am I looking at a whole day)
A: depends on how long it takes you to get the carbs off, the last bike I did was a CBR 600f it took me about 4 hours with tea breaks!

Q: Will I need to get a garage to tune/do anything after the kit has been installed? (I was going to carbtune myself anyway)
A: I would suggest a trip to your local dyno place and have a chat with them but yes is the answer. They may put the kit in for you. You’ll possibly need a couple of hours, depending how good you are at setting up carbs in the first place.
I have done it all on the road but it’s a long boring job and how are you going to do a flat run in top and still do a plug chop! “A Plug chop (go full throttle and then kill the engine and pull the clutch in to see how lean or rich the engine is running)”

Q: Am I looking at a great MPG decrease?
A: Errrr YES! More air more fuel more cost!

Q: I’ve seen them for £106 is this a good price?
A: Don’t know shop around! But sounds about right.

Q: Is there anything else I should consider when going through this? (+5° timing advancer?)
A: I did put a +5% on a ZRX1200s I did not feel any difference at all but the dyno did show a better curve over all. Ok how far do you want to go with the tuning Hot Cam’s, Skimmed head, ported and polished head, Titanium Valves and springs, big bore, Turbo, Noz,?

Thanks this does help me out.

It seems that if I go down this route I'll need that trip to the Dyno place so it all adds up cost wise. Its something that I'll spend a few months thinking about as I need to save up anyway but I'll do some more research.

I've stripped down old twin webbers on my MK2 Escort and Sierra back in the day but not touched the carb on the Bandit yet. Keep thinking I need to buy one cheap just to have a good look at it and have a play bounce

Unless you fit the k&n panel filter u should be fine with standard jetting and the can.

If u fit the k&n then a stage 1 might be needed as u will prob have a few holes in the power curve, flat spots.

Stage 1 involves, Tank off, carbs out, float bowls off and main jets changed.
Carb tops off, needles out and stage 1 needles fitted.

Pilot screws adjusting out.

The hardest part is pulling and refitting the carbs, can be a bit of a sod refitting the throttle cables and squeezing in past the air box.

Set aside at least half a day if its your first time,

Fuel consumption marginaly worst if u get throttle happy.

I found an advancer crispens up throttle response and compliments other tuning mods.

Rolling road only needed if u cant tune out any flat spots.

If fitted and set right, filter, jet kit, free flowing can, u can expect 10-15 brake above stock, thumbs
