Mallory Test Day

Recommended Posts

Well, pootled over to Mallory Park with small child this afternoon, mainly to see if the replacement engine was all OK[1], but to also have a fiddle with the rear shock settings ready for his race there later this month.

Fortunately we were blessed with good weather, which is fortunate because he still hasn't bought any wets yet. head bang Engine ran spot on and we were getting there with the shock settings - after the first session the rest of the afternoon was pretty much 3 laps then back in, add or remove another click from the compression or rebound, do another 3 laps and repeat over and over again. but the daft sod wore out both pairs of knee sliders, the second pair wearing down through the edge of the velcro and putting a small hole in his leathers.

Fortunately we scraped together £20 (no cards accepted in the on site shop) for a new pair of sliders for the last 12 laps of the final session and kept the top edge held down with some good old gaffa tape.

The good news is the suspension settings were now spot on thumbs The bad news is that the rock ape killed the sliders *and* his leathers *and* his right boot *and* managed to wear a hole in the side of the fairing (which to be fair is the cheapest fix of the lot.. Sad

A couple of loony fast boys there, the guy sporting no 12 is Luke Mossey who is doing well in the British Supersport Championship, plus Walker on his Primo Kawasaki, but I only managed to get over to the track for a couple of pics at the end of the last session because of fettling duty and I'm only using an old 'point n shoot' so the pics aint great.

Roll on the 25th thumbs

[1] The old engine was fine, but it had done 40,000 miles and 14 of the 16 valve clearances were out, which is £150 in shims from Kawasaki and he got offered an (allegedly) 8,000 mile engine for £100 but was unable to hear it run, so he figured it was worth a punt. Having took the lid and the sump off it was indeed very clean inside, and it fired up and selected gear OK, but you never really know until you have a good ride of it.
