Promotion from SMP

Hey, CryHavoc21 here, and I have a suggestion.

I left the Classic server once I had bought the full version of the game as a Mason. Since I have no more desire to return to Classic, I propose that ranks should be able to be given based on time spent on the SMP server. Some of us play SMP only, and we would like to be recognized, as well as those who frequent the Classic server.

Promotions could be from time spent on the server, players killed, time spent between deaths, or even run on the "make a good build" philosophy like Classic. (Unfortunately, SMP is a PVP server, so most builds are function-only.)

There are no ranks in SMP, there are only permission groups. Builder to give players the permission to build and interact and moderation ranks. Veteran was a group created to reward long time AITM players who have proven to be veteran members of AITM and have shown there good conduct. As such are given a reward system in SMP that gives the players benefits without giving them a advantage over other players or gameplay. This is far easier determined by getting the stats already from classic. As we can easily see that players stats and if they made it to artisan have shown people they are capable.

However I myself as well don't visit classic, I understand your point of not wanting to go back. It stands to reason that SMP players should be given a chance to earn this special rank through SMP. However to my knowledge there is no real stats system in SMP, figuring out who to promote to this in SMP is a much harder choice. I personally prefer time spent on server + conduct given during this time period. As a example, spending a month or two on the SMP server and during this time have gotten no infractions from moderators = veteran reward. However this decision it up to eric or sharok on what they want for the server and that rank.

I know that sounds tougher to gain then getting artisan from classic. Infact artisan is fairly easy to obtain, I've seen that been given out like candy many times. However those are ranks given by classic standards. SMP standards are quite different. If you want a SMP version, it would have to be under different circumstances and conditions. As unfair as it is, that's the only way I see how it can be.

I see your point of the different judging standards for SMP. As you have said (or if not you, someone else), SMP is a totally different server than Classic. The players have different goals and different play styles. I just proposed that SMP-only people should be able to gain the reward for being a long-time player, and a person who shows good conduct. Even if the standards are tougher, the option should be available. Though, like you said, Eric and Sharok have to decide/program a tracking system, similiar to classic's programming. Perhaps said change will come with the 1.3 update to the server.

As far as I know the only difference between Builder and Veteran is being able to /sethome 3 homes + Bed for Builder and 5 homes + Bed for Veteran. Not really that big of a gameplay difference.

Not suppose to be a huge gameplay difference, would be crazy to have a rank that gave players advantages over others. However having extra homes goes a long way.

Plus, a Veteran has premission to turn of tpa'ing, and is able to /delhome, and set new homes. Fairly useful, if you ask me. I would consider that an advantage.

Well Veterans actually earned though classic so it means we spend more time on the server then the normal builder

@Shepp Woops. I didn't know that. Shows how much I know about server ranks/premission groups.

@Mike While that may be the current function of the system, this topic if for the dicussion for a change to said system. Are you saying that SMP-only players should not be rewarded for thier good conduct and dedication?

Well, I was on SMP, talking with Dem, and he suggested that if I still fell strongly about this, I should post here. Due to the inflood of new players to the server, it makes me want to show my dedication and knowledge about this server. I've been playing for about a month, ever since I got Minecraft. I think a certain amount of hours on the server should deserve recognition. And it's not just me: I know Builders who have been on as long (and longer) than I have. PiGuy, for example.
