Bad TV baaaaddd!

Recommended Posts

Okay, this is my gripe for today. Yesterday it was about the sheer magnitude of pink items in the shops, today it's about TV, specifically German TV.

It's so bad that now one of the third programs (each area of Germany had their own TV station where they can play things of local interest). Most of it is as exciting as a trip to the dentist. But, tonight's show takes the cake. In the southernmost area of the country they are playing a show called (I kid you not):

Bavarian Political Idol!

I don't really get why they want to glorify politicians, but I guess to some they need all the help they can get. At any rate, this woman gets on the stage and sings about laws, checks and balances. It's not even funny. I mean; Clive Kalinga the singing civil servant from the Muppet Show would be right at home there, but he was at least funny. At any rate, my husband watched for about two minutes and saw the audience filled to the max with politicians dressed in lederhosen and no doubt chugging beer.

Yay! Let's hear it for stereotypes!

And people wonder why I don't have anything productive to say about what's on television...

"American " television is now "reality" tv that is scripted lol and makes the country's women look like gold digging trash.

I promise there are some of us here with morals and our own brains Smile They will do anything here for ratings.Even the cartoons have gotten horrible.

Well, the audience from the Political Idol show is pretty much the same as you'd get at a German football match. congratulations

Hey hon, not only is American t.v. into "scripted" reality t.v., its also into so called "family" shows. Meaning it takes a famous family and puts it on t.v. and follows them around showing us their day. One of which is " Keeping up with the Kardashians". Or something like that.

That sounds about as exciting as going to the store and buying a tabloid...not my thing. I'll stick to DVDs. I have been watching season two of The Cosby Show as of lates. So glad I was an eighties kid...at least we got good TV shows.

Now not all American t.v. is that bad to watch. On the Discovery channel they have been showing Blue Planet, also they plan on showing something called "Life" which they say is an 11 part series. Also there are many competition shows. I like "Dancing with the Stars" and they have shows that are doing some good for others like "Extreme Makeover". I watched one episode that guest stared Kelli Pickler, (a country music singer) helping to build a house for a family that had two children that were autistic. And what they did was to rebuild the house from the ground up in a autistic friendly environment for the kids and made it open for the mom so she could keep an eye on everyone. It was cool.

Looks like I'm not missing much - not really watching telly - being it UK, American, Czech or any other - reality TV never called to me as I have watched Big Brother once (for about 2 minutes while waiting at friends house ) and they shown people sleeping - what a lots of bull.

I do like programs about nature though but you have to subscribe to specialised channels for that Sad

Normal telly is hardly worth watching anymore. Bring of DVD's and cinema .
