XS1100 0 Posted December 22, 2010 Hey in the oldern days I blow out brake drums for years, the work shop was full of brake dust, and Ive quite smoking 20 ferodos please mate tar!
Nobby 0 Posted December 22, 2010 I worked at Ferodo the brake manufacturer for a year. they had 60,000 claims in for Asbestosis. So they decided to change the name to Federal Mogul and go into chapter 11 to get out of paying any claims. Some of the lads who worked there used to make "snow balls" out of the stuff and throw it at each other. The thing is, The Government knew about the risks of Asbestosis for at least 18 years before they banned its use. in that time they estimate around 14 million people worldwide have become infected with Asbestosis MesotheliomaI suppose I was lucky, I worked there after the asbestos ban. But the stuff they manufacture the brakes with now, is just as bad. As soon as I found out what they were using I left.
RichardH 0 Posted December 22, 2010 I think anyone who's 45+ would have come into unrestricted contact with Asbestos, it's just the ignorance of the times.

jezza 0 Posted December 24, 2010 used to remove this stuff years ago when i worked for a roofing company, had a big contract removing asbestos roofs from mod buildings , it was suprising how many different ways asbestos was used in the past.
rocker1 0 Posted December 24, 2010 Hi A friend has a asbestos removal buisness and he tells me the next thing that will require specialist removal is glass insulation. It brakes down into shorter strands and dust with age and will not "wet" like asbestos.
