In The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning ........ Frank Sinatra

In the wee small hours of the morning,
While the whole wide world is fast asleep,

You lie awake and think about the girl
And never, ever think of counting sheep.

When your lonely heart has learned its lesson,
You'd be hers if only she would call,
In the wee small hours of the morning,
That's the time you miss her most of all.

When your lonely heart has learned its lesson,
You'd be hers if only she would call,
In the wee small hours of the morning,
That's the time you miss her most of all.

As Time Goes By ..... Frank Sinatra

You must remember this
A kiss is still a kiss
A sigh is still (just) a sigh
The fundamental things apply
As time goes by

And when two lovers woo
They still say: I love you
On that you can rely
No matter what the future brings
As time goes by

Moonlight and love songs - never out of date
Hearts full of passion - jealousy and hate
Woman needs man - and man must have his mate
That no one can deny

It's still the same old story
A fight for love and glory
A case of do or die
The world will always welcome lovers
As time goes by

Ships ....... Barry Manilow

We walked to the sea
just my father and me
and the dogs played around on the sand
Winter cold cut the air
hangin' still everywhere
Dressed in gray, did he say
"hold my hand"?
I said "love's easier
when it's far away"
We sat and watched a distant light

We're two ships that pass in the night
We both smile and we say it's alright
We're still here
It's just that were out of sight
Like those ships that pass in the night

There's a boat on the line
where the sea meets the sky
there's another that rides far behind
And it seems you and I are like strangers
a wide ways apart as we drift on through time
He said "it's harder now, we're far away"
We only read you when you write

We're just two ships that pass in the night
We both smile and we say it's alright
We're still here
It's just that were out of sight...

Smoke, Smoke, Smoke That Cigarette Written by Merle Travis and Tex Williams
Now I'm a feller with a heart of gold
And the ways of a gentleman I've been told
The kind of guy that wouldn't even harm a flea
But if me and a certain character met
The guy that invented the cigarette
I'd murder that son-of-a-gun in the first degree

It ain't cuz I don't smoke myself
And I don't reckon that it'll harm your health
Smoked all my life and I ain't dead yet

But nicotine slaves are all the same
At a pettin' party or a poker game
Everything gotta stop while they have a cigarette

Smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette
Puff, puff, puff and if you smoke yourself to death
Tell St. Peter at the Golden Gate
That you hate to make him wait
But you just gotta have another cigarette

Now in a game of chance the other night
Old Dame Fortune was a-doin' me right
The kings and the queens just kept on comin' round

And I got a full and I bet 'em high
But my bluff didn't work on a certain guy
He just kept on raisin' and layin' that money down

Now he'd raise me and I'd raise him
I sweated blood, gotta sink or swim
He finally called and didn't even raise the bet

So I said "aces full Pops how 'bout you?"
He said "I'll tell you in a minute or two
But right now, I gotta have me a cigarette"

Smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette
Puff, puff, puff and if you smoke yourself to death
Tell St. Peter at the Golden Gate
That you hates to make him wait
But you just gotta have another cigarette

(Ah, smoke it! Hah! Yes! Yes! Yes!)

The other night I had a date
With the cutest little girl in the United States
A high-bred, uptown, fancy little dame

She loved me and it seemed to me
That things were 'bout like they oughta be
So hand in hand we strolled down lover's lane

She was oh so far from a cake of ice
And our smoochin' party was goin' nice
So help me cats I believe I'd be there yet

But I give her a kiss and a little squeeze
And she said, "ah, Marty, excuse me please
I just gotta have me another, cigarette"

And she said, smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette
Puff, puff, puff and if you smoke yourself to death
Tell St. Peter at the Golden Gate
That you hate to make him wait
But you just gotta have another cigarette

he he he ..... My dad loved that era of music and that song was one that I heard a million times growing up... Everytime that you girls talk about going for a smoke, I think of that song .....

the good thing about going out to smoke is that your house stays clean and you don't kill others, the bad thing is it takes so much more time

Hiya Frannie Smile

They're my husband's kids (not really kids at all at 19 and 22) - I sure will miss them though
Sad

Hey Tanya
How are you doing ?
You are so right about the house being empty. They just left last night so I think that we will notice more today. OH is quite miserable though. They've been here for so long, you begin to think it last forever. It'll be another year at least before we see them again

@ Gill - gosh what a frost last night!! It's SO cold here...pretty though huh ?

Aaaw you thought of me Frannie Smile Actually amazing how we do all think of each other at various times, not connected with PS at all.

Sorry you're lonely Tan Tan
The tennis isn't going our way at the moment, but give it time!

Anyway....at least we had some :-)
How's the work going in the house ?? We are finishing clearing our garage out today :-(

I sent notes in the game Frannie, but I absolutely loved the gifts you sent yesterday - and am so pleased I could help out with the surfboard Smile

LOL at the debacle over the chargers Wish. We're having a spell of stuff all going wrong - leak in the dining room celing, not sure where it came from and it's dry, but it's going to have to be replaced Sad
Possibly it came from when we had the radiator in the ensuite above, replaced - so that jobs going to cost £400 more than it did at the time Grrrr.

The other work seems to be progressing well, thanks, must take some more photos today.

LOL - How many red surfboards did you get Frannie ?
LaughingLaughing

Oh Gill - seems like there's no such thing as a straightforward job is there ! OUr garage doors broke over Xmas so we couldn't get in or out without a big faff. But we managed to get them fixed for £80 - so don't have to replaced them !!

I doubt it Tanya. Stew is trying to get into Med school over there and Rach is just going into 2nd year at Uni. Maybe when UNi's finished - you never know where they'll end up !! We're planning a trip to China with them next year congratulations

Just been away from the thread, as was looking up the meaning of Hurst in so many village names around this neck of the woods - someone at work had asked OH if he knew (he didn't)

There are lots of villages with hurst at the end of their name, but I found Hurst Green, which in Anglo Saxon was Hyrst Grene meaning Green Wood...

so, I deduce that the Hurst bit = wood?!

Oh poop, not often I have something that someone else was really looking for! aaah well.

Our garage door went ponto too, couldn't get it open - think something has warped and it blew a fuse. OH is totally useless at any kind of DIY, but our builder sorted it for us.

Now the kettle's developed a glitch - we have NO luck with kettles, and it's not as though I buy cheap ones - the lid's stopped lifting up (you press a button to lift and fill) - this must be the fourth one in as many years Sad
