AXIUM Songs/Lyrics & Discussion

Recommended Posts

This may be hard since I love every song, but let's overanalyze and obsess like we do every other song. Very Happy

~

I'll start with Balance, because it's one of my absolute favorites. It's almost too beautiful/heartbreaking for me to listen to. Supposedly he wrote it about his grandfather (?). Either way, it just kills me.

Lyrics:

Take your turn to lean on me
I've leaned on you for so long
Your words, they hide behind your age
My words, they sing you this song

And I fall from this tightrope
That you've walked a thousand times
One step over to step
You're wise beyond your eyes

Walk away, it's your time
Deny the tear in my eye
Your memory will never die
Your memory will never die

At peace I trust in you every step of the way
To stay with me 'til the end of the day
So move on to your tomorrow as we all say goodnight
'cause you're my sense of balance for the rest of my life

Now I'm waiting on the words
That I've never had the chance to tell
So this is my "I love you"
This is my "fare thee well"

Walk away, it's your time
Deny the tear in my eye
The memory will never die
The memory will never die

At peace I trust in you every step of the way
To stay with me 'til the end of the day
So move on to your tomorrow as we all say goodnight
'cause you're my sense of balance for the rest of my life, rest of my life
Rest of my life, rest of my life, rest of my life, rest of my life...

Awww LoveCrying
Love this line:
"So this is my "I love you"
This is my "fare thee well""

Okay, I just got a separate full-body chill for each individual verse that I read. No joke. Yeah..... Amazing.

I know. Crying non-stop

And this line:
"So move on to your tomorrow as we all say goodnight"

It's like the moment when you become at peace with letting someone go. It amazes me how he can write such personal songs such as this and Permanent. He really does capture every emotion that he's going through. Ugh. He's just too much.

I know. I just want to bottle up his talent and protect it from the world. I love his creativity and honesty, and how he "wears his heart on his sleeve".

I'm afraid that his writing is going to get more guarded and jaded as he grows up in this industry.

Okay, I've been emotional ever since AC. I'm gonna go cry in an emo corner now.

Just In Case

Lyrics:
Life's not what it used to be
I struggle to survive
Always short of everything
A failure in your eyes
To understand what's in my head
Takes energy for two
Let all be known and all be shown
What I really think of you

So hold me to the light
And watch me fade to white
And burn away.
Their souls are on your hands
Too late to make amends
You've chosen your way.
I've heard it all before,
And I won't preach it anymore
That life's not made to waste.
So do what you can to be,
Be who you want to be,
Just in case

Stranglehold of bend and fold
To feed your sense of self
I spent my life to be your slave
Surrounded by myself
To want someone to comprehend
Is to want it all in gold
I see myself in black and white
Beaten down and old
Beaten down and old

So hold me to the light
And watch me fade to white
And burn away.
Their souls are on your hands
Too late to make amends
You've chosen your way.
I've heard it all before,
I won't preach it anymore
Life's not made to waste.
So do what you can to be,
Be who you want to be,
Just in case

And this part is awesome. I love the poetry and wordiness of it:

"Stranglehold of bend and fold
To feed your sense of self
I spent my life to be your slave
Surrounded by myself
To want someone to comprehend
Is to want it all in gold
I see myself in black and white
Beaten down and old"

I FREAKING LOVE THIS SONG!!! My ABSOLUTE FAVORITE Axium song, hands down. I listened to it last night for the first time in quite a while and it moved me to tears. Just an absolutely beautiful song with incredibly moving lyrics. The singer's not all that bad either. Razz

I need some love.

Pure, unfiltered, unashamed, selfless love. Heart

With life on hold
Say goodbye to old habits of circumstance
The way you know me
Seems to show me why I'm glad we took this chance

I've fallen short of grace
Each time I see your face you make me feel so free
But I can't comprise
And I won't compromise all you've done for me
I know it seems like a dream
Please, God, don't take this away from me

The way you love me all the same
I'm amazed at who you are
This moment in my life
It's like I've never loved before
The way you show me with a kiss
How much you care
You are love
You are life
You are peace of mind

The way you love me all the same
I'm amazed at who you are
This moment in my life
It's like I've never loved before
The way you show me with a kiss
How much you care
You are love
You are life
You are love
You are life
You are love
You are life
To me, you're peace of mind

The lyrics, and oh god the guitar... the guitar is so beautiful. Makes my heart cry.

Yes. Gorgeous song.

"I've fallen short of grace
Each time I see your face"

CryingAwww Love

I think my favourite part is the guitar, especially the chords near the beginning and end of the song. I could just listen to that for hours... not even the vocals. I've just.... never heard a few simple guitar chords that so perfectly captures love. (Sorry to get cheesy here.)

I just like listening to this song a lot in shitty times (like these), and I do often. It sort of reminds me of how much pure love like this there is in the world.

*puts away cheesecake*

Haha, no, but seriously. Awww Love

(Also, I just had a pretty nice image a while ago of just hiding out with David, in grungy clothes, just lying around with him all day, while he plays those chords. Stealing a few little glances and smiles while he plucks the strings... Uh.. yeah.)

Umm, ditto. You pretty much said it all right there. Guitar chords, pure love, cheesecake, and "hiding out with Dave". Great

Although I'll add that this song soothes me. It's appropriate that it's called "Peace Of Mind", because it really is peaceful. No bitterness, no heartache. Just love.

P.S. You probably love it because he wrote it for a "Sarah" Razz j/k

Adding another amazing Axium song. I'm Not Worthy! Love the little countdown in the beginning. Love the guitar. Love the way his voice sounds. Love it all. Beautiful. Sad. And something else that I can't find the right word for yet...

UNLUCKY

Lyrics:
No fool's eye to recognize
Where growth is preferred, my growth is deterred
If I could find an alibi, then I might find something good
No blood can be seen yet it still can be shed
Know these words that you speak are like nails in my head

Here's the last words I'll write for you
From the start I'd lost step with you
Now you'll see,
You're far too unlucky for me

A warning shot hits the air in the form of a child
How immense for another to raise one of its kind
No reason to scream; seems it's all in my head
Know these words that you speak now wash off with the dead

Here's the last words I'll write for you
From the start I'd lost step with you
Now you'll see,
You're far too unlucky for me

Where's the time go when walking blind
Where's the love when you never mind
seems to be,
You're far too unlucky for me

Ummm.... Am I late on this? Did anyone notice this? Why does Neal know a guitar riff from Thought You Knew? Shocked 1:43. Someone just pointed it out to me.

I still doubt that they will ever play any Axium, but it still makes me wonder...

My "song of the moment" is Just In Case. Awww Love

"Always short of everything
A failure in your eyes"

That always makes me sad. Very Sad Especially since Dave said recently he was afraid of failure (as are a lot of people).

SOMBER LYRICS

Inside I'm empty and outside I'm numb
And I keep on waiting for the pain to succumb
Inside I'm lonely, outside I'm alone
As the world falls apart in the end
Hate floods my body and thoughts cloud my mind
Can't shake the cobwebs that I find, yeah
The darkness flutters around my head
Sometimes, I wonder, Am I dead?

I'm breaking down as you're breaking out
Can't seem to conquer what life's all about
In the end I'll fall right before your eyes
Your cries, your lies, I die
Somber

I hope you're happy with what you've done
You've burned all bridges, how's the power of one?
I hear your heart beat as you walk on by
I see inside you on this final goodbye
Hate floods my body and thoughts cloud my mind
Can't shake the cobwebs that I find, yeah
The darkness flutters around my head
Sometimes, I wonder, Am I dead? yeah, yeah

I'm breaking down as you're breaking out
Can't seem to conquer what life's all about
In the end I'll fall right before your eyes
Your cries, your lies, I die
Somber

Seems life has changed
Time to do without
I'm gonna check myself before
I check out yeah, yeah, yeah

I'm breaking down as you're breaking out
Can't seem to conquer what life's all about
In the end I'll fall right before your eyes
Your cries, your lies, I die

I'm breaking down as you're breaking out
Can't seem to conquer what life's all about
In the end I'll fall right before your eyes
Your cries, your lies, I die
Somber, yeah, yeah, yeah
Somber, yeah, yeah

This is my favorite Axium song, ever. Although the rest of them are amazing, this one just rips me apart inside, especially the acoustic version. I could go on for hours talking about this song, but I wont.

Quote :
In the end I'll fall right before your eyes

Your cries, your lies, I die,
Somber

These lyrics hit home for me.

Yes. It's definitely one of his darkest songs lyrically. I like the acoustic version. This song is just so honest and raw. David literally took all of his hurt and his pain and put it into one song. Amazing. He didn't hold anything back, and I respect that. And it also makes me want to go back in time and hug the hell out of him and tell him that I'm sorry he was hurting. Very Sad I'm so sappy.

That's why I love it- this is going to make me sound really like emo (lol), but I really love David's darker songs BECAUSE it's so raw and honest.

When I listen to this song, I always get this image in my mind of some girl hurting David so deep; not like just a little fight where they argue or anything, but more like her words hurt him so deep inside that he doesnt know what to do with himself. So he takes all of his sorrow out with his song lyrics; he doesnt hold anything back, he just lets it all out.

Very Sad Wow.... These songs always seem to hit me harder when I just read the lyrics on their own, without the music.

I know what you mean Jenna. It seems like he just put the pen to paper and let it all flow out without a second thought. It's just raw unfiltered emotions.

And I don't think that David, or any songwriter who writes dark songs like this, has been more hurt or had more dark times than any other person. They just have the ability to put it into words so poetically like David does, seemingly without even trying, and turn it into art for other people to appreciate and identify with. And it seems like it just comes so naturally to him. There's a natural free-flowing quality about his lyrics, like in Somber, where you can tell it just flowed across the paper.

And I am TOTALLY rambling right now. But when other people get emo, I get emo, lol.

I'm pretty sure I feel more emo now than ever before. LOL.

With a lot of Axium songs, I get the feeling that David broke more than a couple pencil tips out of frustration, anger, ect while writing them

Yeah.... he's being ripped apart inside, but angry, sweaty, intense Dave is totally hot.

I love how we have this image that when he gets really pissed or sad or emo, he starts sweating and turning into this hot mess. LOL Face

But yeah. Poetic amazingness and artistic integrity and sweaty anger is always hot, especially in combination.

Of course he is! There are not many people that can be sweaty as hell and still be über sexy. LOL

But back to the music... I think David knows who he is both as a musician and a person, so he can convey that through his music and lyrics.

bobs.mom's April Fools joke must be preserved

Tue, 03/31/2009 - 19:20 — bobs.mom
I have always floved Red Hot. I was really hoping to ask him someday if he would ever play it, but now he's preempted me. If I was one of TPTB, I would use that song to play an April Fool's joke on David:
PTB - "Uh, Dave, NASCAR has approached us and is interested in using "Red Hot" for their theme song this year.
Dave: "No way in hell."
PTB - "Don't sweat it Dave, they want the Jonas Bros. to sing it. Way to cheezy for your brand."
Dave: "uh, uh, uh......Neeeee-aaaallll."
PTB - "April Fools - OUCH!" (walks away to find steak to put on eye)

(waves at Dave!)

Even he admit it...

Don't worry dave... You are WAY, better now... Great

ETA: I don't think 'red hot' is THAT bad. I just think its very juvenile compared to the other Axium stuff. Very Happy

I posted this in the BandAids section some time ago but thought I'd bring it here.

"Jeff Shrout has posted a "demo teaser" on his myspace. So, like snippits of stuff he is working on. Sounds like some cool songs! Check it out here:" http://www.myspace.com/jeffshrout

Why not stop in and give Jeff some encouragement?

So happy to see Axium songs getting some love over here! I cannot speak to "Red Hot" as I have not heard it but I still cannot get over how good the Axium song book is. So much depth and so unexpected from such youngsters! I am pretty familiar with The Story Thus Far but I am still exploring the other records and finding new (constantly shifting) faves.

When I'm feeling stressed or someone pisses me off, that's when I blast Feed Your Ego in my car and sing/yell along. Very therapeutic. Great

"Hide behind your bitter fate
To keep inside your bitter hate
You don't like what I do
Well it's not about you
So go on and feed your ego"

Throwing some love at Just in Case. Heart I listened to it today, and I'm just still constantly amazed at how it (and pretty much all the Axium songs) are so beautifully written and so profound in their meanings and performed so incredibly, whether aggressively or really tender. They're always perfect.

Gah... I just can't get over the poetry and the feelings these songs evoke.. *gushes* I'm being a major music dork right now. Don't mind me.

Okay, cue Twilight Zone music. I was looking for this thread to bump it up, and Sarah beat me to it. Shocked Anyway, I'm in Axium mode this week. I've listened to Pecking Order on repeat. "Flat on my face, I can't keep pace. But someday I'll be on top, high above you all". I just love that line. The whole song actually. Love the drums & guitar in the beginning.

Also on repeat: Unlucky. Awww Love "Here's the last words I'll write for you"

Current Axium song on repeat: No Place To Go. It's not one I really used to listen to that much for some reason. I must be going through some angsty, emo phase right now, LOL.

"You lie inside your head
pondering what life holds for you
You hold your soul up to the sky as the sun changes you
Too many times left standing against what faith can do
This time I think I know
You stand here forever with no place to go"

Also rocked out to the Feed Your Ego remix today. As Stacy said above, he's so angry in it. Shocked My favorite part is towards the end when he says "it's not fucking about you" Holy hell, so much intensity. Like he's just going to knock the micstand over, come and yank you out of the crowd, drag you to the back of the bar, and....well... Shocked

I wish there was video of the Feed Your Ego remix. I wanna see how Dave was moving/rocking out during the rapping verses. I'm curious if he would have gone all "gangsta Dave" and thinking it was cool for him, whitest man alive, to pretend he was a rapstar too. LOL Face

Axium combines my favourite things.. amazing lyrics, aggressive rock, and Dave's rough angtsy "maul you like an angry tiger" voice. Shocked Currently listening to the live tracks.. Leave Behind, Just in Case.. *shudders with awesomeness*
