Davehutch-hutchs 0 Posted November 2, 2010 need a bit of help guys, My 56 plate 39,000 mile transit connect it due for service and mot, would you take it to ford who have all the electric plug in kit , or to the back street garage , I have always took my vans to a back street garage who is a friend, but with this one being a lot newer dont know what to do, A good job and it being reliable is more important than how much it will cost ,
frankg 0 Posted November 2, 2010 ALways a difficult one to answer, a standard service then anyone does same as MOT but when you want something fixing and checking out properly then Im afriad it really needs to be someone with the right equipment to check/diagnose. Im sure more than just the dealers have the facility to plug into the management system but it can be an expensive "toy" for some. BUt for just a plain service and MOT why pay dealer prices so long as your friend does a proper check on everything like pads etc. These systems are all good and well to identify something is not working but when everything is working then it tells you sweetFA,
Nobby 0 Posted November 2, 2010 Dave, most "backstreet" garages use a diagnostic system like the Launch x431 it’s as good as the main dealer Bosch unit.We use main dealer on all our vans, until the warrantee period is up. Then use independent garages. We have Peugeot Boxer vans at work. Main dealer’s service prices are £190.00 Independents are £110.00.If you have an independent garage that you are happy with stick with him. Transit connect vans are as reliable as granite. lee1 1 Posted November 2, 2010 just use ya mate dave,no need to worry about useing the diagnostic gear just for a servicemost places have auto data which tells them, what requires doing on a service,so aslong as no corners are cut it will be fine
firehawk 0 Posted November 2, 2010 go independant mate. most have diagnostic equipment like autologic or launch as said above. most also have autodata available to hand like lee says. the garage i worked at was an independant garage and we had some very advanced equipment. as long as the service book is stamped, the warranty should still stand aswell. i think manufacturers HAVE to honour warranties now even when work is carried out elsewhere
Davehutch-hutchs 0 Posted November 10, 2010 right thanks for your advice lads , I am prity sure my back street garage has not got diagnostic system, So i know you will think i am daft but got it booked in with Sandicliffe Ford for tomorrow , full service and mot + a van for the day £225.00,I also told them the battery light come on twice in the last 12 months in slow traffic turned the ignition off and back on both times and it went away,They said it would tell them this when they plug it in to the diagnostic system

Kenb 0 Posted November 9, 2011 DaveGo waste ya money at the main dealer. Some of the main dealers have the biggest tossers in the industry working for them. Take it where you usually do.
smudgeandsmear 0 Posted November 9, 2011 i always get main dealer to service vehicle until its 3 years old, then take it to a garage i trust,as long as there is a full service history it should'nt effect resale value
