Diane 0 Posted January 11, 2011 Mr Dave, why won`t you let me run a little ad? It`s not like I`m trying to sell washing machines or workshop maintenance. What we do is a benefit to charities and a fun biker friendly place to holiday...please Dave let me ad pleeeeeze
yankeedoodle 0 Posted January 11, 2011 On behalf of Dave, sorry but no There are a number of members on here who would like to advertise but have accepted Daves request not to. To allow you to, would not be fair on those people. There's plenty of places you can advertise, but this is a forum designed for bike related chat, and thats how its going to stay

Guest Guest Posted January 11, 2011 I get the no advertising bit but come on, that rule needs defining. Me putting links up to a mates website of images isn't the same as company advertising is it? I don't charge for my photography service, I do it cos I love it and I love to share that with others. So stopping me putting a link up in a relevant post is a tad frustrating when I'm not selling anything. Also why no to links to sites in posts but have them in the signature bit? Fair enough it's your site and you run it how you see fit and I'll abide by the rules.. I just like to understand why they're there.
Guest Guest Posted January 11, 2011 On a personal point of view, I enjoy this site because there is NO advertising.I'm a member on a few paid sites and even though as a paid member I get less adverts, I still don't want them I get bombarded by them enough every day, this is my HAPPY PLACE You have to ask yourself, did you join the site to make new aquaintances or just to push your buisness, if its the latter, well!! [u]Thanks for abiding by the rules NOZ , dont really want to get in to Advertising on this forum , I thought i was being fair by letting each member advertise there website or put a link to there chosen site in there profile Noz, I cant see a problem with you posting a link to your site if its RELEVANT to the topic. and your not making money from it or trying to get some business out of it. However if you was blatantly doing it to get more views on your site then it may become a problem. At the end of the day, its difficult to draw the line, and some people may be unhappy with it but they are just going to have to accept our decisionand yes rule needs defining, and i will look in to it

peejay 0 Posted January 11, 2011 Out of interest Dave, why is it that adverts show before I log in ? Just curious
smilinjack 0 Posted January 11, 2011 Ironically I'd say Diane's had all the advertising she could wish for by now simply by refusing to accept the Forum rules and using the "please be nice to me" tactic in more than one thread. I personally don't care one way or the other about advertising, but rules is rules, so how's about we ALL abide by them?

Davehutch-hutchs 0 Posted January 11, 2011 @peejay wrote:Out of interest Dave, why is it that adverts show before I log in ? Just curious Thats how the forum (server) makes its money through google advertising , If i want to get rid of that I have to pay to do it, I dont really want to get in to paying , But saying that the server is talking about putting it on the page even when we are logged in, And to get rid I will have to pay , now if this happens I can pay to get rid of it out my own pocket or start asking for a donation from members, OR Decide to go down the advertising route by letting members pay to advertise, then that money going to wards getting rid of the google adverts, And if this was to happen Lee would be 1 of the first i would let advertise , He advertises this forum on his web site knowing that he cant advertise on here
Guest Guest Posted January 11, 2011 I have a Bike Porn page on my website dedicated to places, people n products I rate - like BFT, Pitstop, Herb, Blingdit.... I like to promote the good stuff. I have a forum page too with sites like Riff Raff, UKSF, ASF, DTP etc on.. I'd be more than happy to add yours Hutch if you fire me a logo/banner over. If I don't rate it, it doesn't go on there and I don't ask for anything in return. Link in my signature.Google ads are all part of free forums unfortunately. I don't even notice them tbh, I just make sure I don't click on them. Instead of advertising, you could just have a thread dedicated to members talents - like spray painting etc. If people need work doing, they will want a good word of mouth recommendation. It could be a locked thread with only mods/admin adding to it. Avoids spam. Just an idea for future consideration. We all have a talent that can help others. Mines big ideas
RichardH 0 Posted January 11, 2011 I suppose its the joys of running anything, there are always those that will push the bounderies either subtly or blatently, that's why we have Mods and Admins, keep up the good work guys it's your forum and your rules. Diane 0 Posted January 11, 2011 OMG did I open up a can of worms, let alone a lot of bitching and judgmental statements. At the end of the day by advertising all we aim to do is to send support to an excellent charity that helps to buy medical equipment at race meetings, "subject close to our hearts".Tried advertising on the classifieds here but the ad was removed...thought the classifieds were meant for selling????? What is the problem in advertising true bike related sites, does it not benefit all bikers. I`ve done my best on FB to promote this site. There`s very little active users here so why would I be wasting my time unless I enjoyed the site?I`m happy to say we`ve had couple of guys on here come and stay for xmas(non paying) that are now friends. No more bitching at me please, enough said.Happy riding and love to all. yankeedoodle 0 Posted January 11, 2011 Diane. As explained on a number of occasions, there are a number of reasons why advertising is not permitted. But at the end of the day, this is Dave's site to do with as he wishes, and if he requests that no advertising is done then thats a rule we ALL have to abide by. Saying that, he doesnt chose to do this from a selfish point of view, he does it to make the forum as good an experience as possible for all membersI'm going to lock this thread for now, atleast for a short while, because I think everything has now been said.If you or anyone has anymore questions then feel free to PM the moderators (me and stue11) or Dave himself.
