Motorbike tyre repair kits

Recommended Posts

Guest Guest
Hi all,
I'm thinking with the miles I do and the odd bigger trip I may invest in one of these kits does anyone have experience with them or comments/better ideas?

I have AA cover anyway but just thinking for those times when getting a repair is my best way home.

Remember ride out soon as well:

I have the "Rema" one (also on e-bay). Looks similar to the one you're looking at.
Carry it under the seat, used it twice up to yet, 100% success both times.

this may seem a silly question Embarassed I take it you have to take your tyre off the rim or is it done from the out side of the tyre ? EmbarassedEmbarassedEmbarassed

They are quite simple to use really, its a bit scary the first time if you've never used one but just follow the instructions and you'll be able to fix 90% of the punctures you get.
The repair is done while the wheel is on the bike and pumped back up with the supplied Co2 cartridges.

Once you've located the hole, if its within the tolerances that can be repaired by the kit, you first roughen the edges around the hole with the supplied tool.
Liberally coat the hole and the plug with the repair glue, shove the plug into the hole with the "T" bar tool, with my kit you need to push the plug right through to the inside of the tyre. Then draw the plug back out half way through the hole and take the "T" bar off....I then left mine to set for 10 or 15 minutes, then its just a matter of cutting off the excess sticking out of the hole and re-inflating with the supplied cartridges. Sometimes you need all three to get to a decent ridable pressure. You should check the pressure at the earliest opportunity, especially if you've got a fair distance to go.
30 minutes should see you back on the road.

haha sorry, this one puts a nice plug into the tyre and would be alot better than silly string imo. also know someone who used this for a repair and went on to use the tyre for the rest of the year and didnt fail him. not recommend thou to run on it for that long. always just a temp repair! thumbs

I agree kit looks really good however as a bandit rider breakdowns are rare & if its a puncture then ill call the recovery block who i have already paid for in my premium

I do agree with you Darkember in the main (if its cold and wet the Mr AA can sort out the mess). What I'm thinking about is when you maybe have gone away for the weekend and the AA would only take you home or take you to a garage. If I could repair my tyre for another 250 miles then I'd be happy and then call the AA if it broke again.

Just as long as it was safe which I'm hoping these kits are and time will tell.

I forgot to say got my kit last week and it looks really good (the case that came with it fits just nice under my seat). I've since chatted to someone else on another forum and he had a situation where he had 3 plugs in a tyre still going strong.

Also I checked out some vids so I had a good idea how to fix if that dreadful day does come. Top tip have some grips to take out the item that has punctured your tyre as well. I have some long nose pliers but think the standard tool kit grips will do anyway:

(ignor the plastic snap off kits as I've been told they don't last too long):
