Bandit exhaust pipes...

Recommended Posts

Right then ile try and keep this short and sweet...Me mate Pike as a B12 as most allready know...when he purchased the bike his collector box was rottern so he bought a new full exhaust system..he bought a slip on end can to go with the link pipe which the link pipe on slip ons are a lot smaller bore etc etc..now the question im asking is...after only a couple of mins after running is bike the front pipes tarnish brown all down the front, is that because they are not a good quality steel or will it have something to do with the link pipe being a lot smaller bore.. I hope ive made sense thumbs

its the fact there single skinned stainless, it will go brown/gold and even blue if it gets hot enough. The pipes might look smaller but they will be the same as the internal measurement on the stock bandit pipes Smile If you dont like the colour, polish them with something like McGuires metal polish Smile

It's the tempering colours caused by the heat on the single skinned stainless pipes, it's actualy a good indicator of how the motor is running, as it's an indication of how hot the pot is running, ie too hot, it's running lean, not good. Straw is normal, with a bit of blue near the ex port but if one or more pot goes extended blue or worst purple I would check the mixture and maybe check for air leaks on that pot. thumbs
