Rf cam chain

Has anyone on here ever replace a cam chain is it a job someone like myself who's self taught could take on as mines worn and rattley ( well it is 17 years old now ) many thanks sparky

I would check the tensioner first,
If you want an endless chain you will prob have to split the engine, the othe option is to use a special split link, then you can join it on the old one and feed it through. thumbs

agree on checking the tensioner, most are stuck or at full capacity and just worn out, i got a tensioner made for the xs as nobody did them and the old one was 32 years old!

Tensioner was replaced last year I got cam chain symptoms as in the rattle the build up of carbon until it backfires so think its time for a new one as it is 17 and not designed to last forever cheers for input guys

Just ordered new chain rocker cover gasket split rivet link to connect it up and while I'm there I'm replacing my plugs for irridium ones all in for £111 from wemoto.com

Done a couple.
Had a Mate keep an eye on me with the first one.

He recon's a common drama is dropping
a link / rivit pin etc down the cam chain
tunnel into the bottom end... Shocked

I keep everything well clear, and pack a
rag into it when im joining them.
