Single on Valentine's Day.

Recommended Posts

What do single people do on Valentine's Day? Valentine's Day is for couples.
Do you think there should be a day for singles too? South Korea has one.

Black Day (April 14) is a South Korean informal tradition for single people to get together and eat jajangmyeon (noodles with black bean sauce), sometimes a white sauce is mixed for those who did not celebrate White Day.

The idea is that those who did not give or receive gifts on Valentine's Day (February 14) or White Day (March 14) can get together and eat jajangmyeon, white Korean noodles with black bean sauce (hence the name), to celebrate their singledom.

I would like to hear your views - wether you are single or happy in love.

I've been with my husband for 34 years now and he doesn't believe in valentines day ....so I still don't celebrate it !! Don't get me wrong, he's not mean or anything ..just doesn't believe in commercialism taking over as it does now

I totally undestand! If you love someone - why show it only one day a year?
Yes Valentine's day (similar to Christmas and Easter) has lost it's true meaning and now it's all about various companies making money.

When I was in relationship (yes I recently became single after many years) we never went out to eat on 14th . I have worked in license trade/catering industry so I know some tricks companies get up to.

Even shops - red rose on "normal day" would probably cost you about £1 but in run up to Valentine's Day you can pay up to £5 for same red rose and I don't think that people who grow them will get more money for their produce.

Kasi my husband and I don't really celebrate it, per se. We go have dinner together, but we do that on other days too. I don't think that a single day should be set aside to love another. Love should be like air, and given and received all year long.

I think valentines day meant more to me when my children were younger ..they would buy (their dad would !) little gifts to give ...and that meant a lot..nowadays we would rather stay home than pay the exorbitant rates that restaurants charge on that day ...and I have fresh flowers in my room most of the time ...even if I do buy them myself!

I am a florist, and all the shops I've worked in actually make less on a dozen roses at Valentines than they do any other time of year....It is the supplers who puts the prices up so much!
You are better off buying flowers at supermarkets these days rather than at a florists Sad Because supermarkets buy in such bulk they can always get them for a fraction of the price a florist can get them at the market Sad

Thank you for that information.
Obviously I can only speak from consumer point of view.

oh trust me I totally agree with you about the price of flowers at Valentines day...I used to get really embarressed telling people the prices of boquets, especially the roses. They always looked at you as if you were totally ripping htem off, when we hardly made anything off them Sad

I usually hate getting fresh flowers. I know I'm weird, but they never last. I generally ask my husband if he's intending on getting me some greenery, to buy me a potted plant at Ikea or get me an orchid.

I think Valnetine's Day is stressful to people in relationships and not. People not in relationships feel bad for being single. People in relationships feel stressed about having to make the other person happy on V-Day, and living up to cultural expectations.

As for flowers, I have to say that even though I know they cost more this time of year, I really love them. My husband usually dones't remember that I like romance, but on Valentine's he always buys me flowers -- so I don't want that to stop, really. He usually buys a really fancy arrangement that I would not feel bold enough to buy just for myself, but as a gift I love it!
