Since OH got the extra bonus and I have new business we opened the kitchen fund, so maybe in 2 years time we can have the dream kitchen. It;s the most important room in the house to me

Well, the hotel was frustrating as much as anything - the location's good (but no parking) and the food at night was good (breakfast wasn't) - but it really needs a refurb. I could SO be the Hotel Inspector!!!

(have you ever watched that on Ch5? We've stayed at Ruth Watson's Crown & Castle at Orford, and believe me, I could teach her a thing or too as well. We wouldn't go there again)

Right - avoid this post if you don't want to read about kitchen stuff.

Wish, we live in our kitchen, the only thing it doesn't have is a sofa, but we got around that by having armchairs around the table (it's actually that garden furniture that looks like rattan, but is all weather. So we have a table and 8 chairs)

The units are golden maple, and the tops are black granite - we doubled the size of what the builder put in, but we had ours hand built, a great match for the original, but so much better and a really clever design.

For that reason (the black granite) we've gone for the black Everhot, and despite my protests at the humungous cost, IMOM has chosen the 100i with an extra lid.

The advantages over Aga, are cost, it has a grill, no annual maintenance,
no flu needed and - big bonus, all the parts are programmable.
You can also 'turn it down' overnight and programme it to ramp up come day time, in Eco mode, and so save some money on the fuel costs.

Oh and btw, we have a fully integrated Miele dishwasher, which is on the blink for the second time since new (3 years) and they can't come out for 2 working weeks!!!

It sounds perfect ....I want to hear much more about it when it's installed and you're using it becuse it could be the answer. I mean we easily accommodate the Aga and the conventional in ourkitchen, but it seems so wasteful to me.

We are gonna have the kitchen hand built too- I have the supplier picked out already and also want granite tops, although I have heard good things about composite ...(OMG apart from Green and footie we could be the same person ) But it will be a big job as today we have a good size utility which makes the kitchen not square (and I like symmetry ) so we are thinking about having the stud walls taken down and opening the kitchen up but.....I still want a space to store dog food, wellies etc, etc so we need to have a new and small outdorr utility space built............
We need to get the dining room finished first LOL and then the hall plastered (HUGE JOB) and then the living room ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Hmmmm I have heard some Horrible things about Miele appliances lately and they are so pricey but not, it seems, as reliable as they used to be.

It was rude of me disappearing without saying something, so I am very sorry for that
And I don't mind reading about kitchen stuff, it's all good advice for my own kitchen later

I love our trees and we take good care of them. Only thing we don't like is that it attracts wasps like crazy (especially our pears) and offcourse, birds eating everything off.

Personally, I can't stand the composite, for me, there's something too false about it, no better than laminate, although, obviously it is (better)
We had granite in the last house and the one before that, and in the bathrooms too - and if we moved, and didn't have granite tops, I'd change them immediately. There's a big variation in colours and prices though, so you can shop around (and buy them direct not through the kitchen suppliers)

Do you have a back door to your utility? could you perhaps make it just a corridor shape with a sink and racking for boots, shelving and pegs etc.? More of a boot room than a utility? We have a double door larder cupboard and it's fabulous, you can get SO much in there instead of cupboards above and below)
Then perhaps have your washing machine/dryer, fully integrated, and make the kitchen more square?

Yes - Gill, I know you're right about granite, but even shopping around the price difference may just be more than i can bear..I'd just sooner spend the money on seeing some more places perhaps we'll settle on wood instead 'cos I MUST see China, south africa, russia, the northern lights, the monaco grand prix,etc etc,,,,,,,

I only seem to do a real minimum of visits these days, gaaah, and now I have to go do dinner. We're having Gloucester Old Spot sausages made with leek and ginger, mash, onions, mushy peas and gravy - aaah comfort food!
Bought the sausages at a farm shop at the weekend.

So, I'll top you up and take my leave, for now....

LOL...I have the complete opposite view (so we are not the same) ...my home is just that, and the stuff in it doesn't matter, it's the company that's important (and the food ) Also,...I think that I'm not gonna die thinking "I wish I'd spent more money on my house" ....but i get your point, Enjoy your dinner it sounds lovely

She hurt herself by picking something up that fell underneath a cupboard, she first thought she sprained her muscle, but it's taking too long to heal so finally (after a LOT of nagging) she made a phonecall to the dr's yesterday and was able to go today. I'm going along with her tomorrow for her x-rays (I don't like hospitals whatsoever, they always make me feel sick) and I just hope the pills will help her, so she won't be needing an MRI (which she has to wait for til June)
