Zoonie 0 Posted April 21, 2010 Airlines and passengers face a slow return to normality as flights resume after a six-day shutdown because of volcanic ash.Tens of thousands of Britons are still stranded abroad and it could take weeks to get back to business as usual.Further delays and cancellations are occurring because of the backlog and planes not being in the right place.Aviation officials lifted the airspace ban on Tuesday night, saying it was now safe for planes to fly. WEDNESDAY'S FLIGHTSBA: All long haul flights from Heathrow and Gatwick; Short haul cancellations until noonVirgin Atlantic: Normal scheduleThomson: Outbound flights cancelledEasyjet: Intends to operate 90% of flightsRyanair: No Northern European flights until 1300 BST on Thursday; No UK-Ireland flights until 1300 BST on FridayFlybe: Flights from 1300 BST but cancellations expected; 18 morning flights re-scheduled to leave 1300 BST*Passengers are advised to contact their airline before travelling to an airport for a flightHeathrow would normally handle about 1,250 flights on an average Wednesday but the departures and arrivals boards at the west London airport were full of cancellations. There were no departures until 0806BST when an Alitalia flight left for Rome. The first two BA flights have left Heathrow for Tel Aviv and New York.UK air traffic control body Nats said it had handled 130 flights over England and Wales, and 35 in Scottish airspace, between 0100 BST and 0700 BST on Wednesday.About 75% of European flights are due to operate on Wednesday, according to the air traffic agency Eurocontrol.Frances Tuke, spokeswoman for travel body Abta, said the return to normality would be slow and there was also a risk the ash cloud could return."The thing to remember is that aircraft and crew are going to be in the wrong place," she said.^ above from the bbc news site. Frannie 0 Posted April 21, 2010 oh well.. at least we saw it on the news... This ACLS stuff is so involved for these nurses, but OH SOOO necessay. They have to put in a lot of extra hours to pass and test. But at least it counts toward the CEU's

Zoonie 0 Posted April 21, 2010 Psst, I was distracted by OH
Zoonie 0 Posted April 21, 2010 OH was late home, the train had to go on a detour (luckily on our line, there is a section that can detour) - turns out it was because of a suicide at one of the stations. He's home safely now though. And then a friend just rang to say her sister in law is on Ideal World, the shopping channel, demonstrating her jewellery, which is a new business for her.
Frannie 0 Posted April 21, 2010 suicides happen a lot more often on train lines than one would think. My younger brother woks for a transit system and they get calls all the time
Zoonie 0 Posted April 21, 2010 I agree (sorry, morbid topic) but usually here, the running updates say something like 'disruption'Have you heard how Robin's got on?
Frannie 0 Posted April 21, 2010 would you believe I am STILL doing laundry? that's what I get for skipping a week
Frannie 0 Posted April 21, 2010 she is still in the test, I think, though I did see a FB update from her.. something about, "oh the joys". It's a very intense class and requires one to 'fake' all the adrenalin one would have in the situation.
Frannie 0 Posted April 21, 2010 and if they take the applicants alphabetically, she has a long time to wait LOL
Frannie 0 Posted April 21, 2010 the good news on that is she'll get to see everyone's mistakes
Zoonie 0 Posted April 21, 2010 LOL...both our girls are CC (for their intials) - better now they're not in the same household (for the post I mean, or should I say Mail?)
Frannie 0 Posted April 21, 2010 oo that had to be confusing... when the mail arrived. I was a B until marriage, it's very hard to wait for the S's to be called. This class requires knowledge of things that a nurrse normally would not be doing duing a code (heart stoppage). I suppose that's the difficult part, learning the doctor's role in things
Frannie 0 Posted April 21, 2010 i am getting oh so tied of doing visits. And tirred of all the stuff flying around the rooms. I'm kind of happy that my perlings never came back. How's Socks getting on, Have you heard? and is Dennis showing signs of being happier?
Zoonie 0 Posted April 21, 2010 No one found your petlings?I don't do anywhere near so many visits - it's just too much of a chore these days.Socks is fine thanks. I spoke to Cathy yesterday, I was worried that Kate said there were a couple of settling in problems - but Cathy said the problems had only been on the first night when he was with Frank, at the holding pen - he took to his new people straight away and all seems fine. They've yet to let him outdoors though.
