Ferrari may stop development of its current F60 racer, if bad luck continues

Recommended Posts

Rumor has it that Ferrari will study its options whether to continue the development of its F60 racer or not, after the Formula 1 circus returns to Europe on May 10th for the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, which takes place after this weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix at the Sakhir race track. Apparently, if the performance of the car is no where but acceptable after the Spanish round, the scarlet team may just end up focusing on its 2010 contender, while still participating in the 2009 season, with a broken leg that is.
However, this is still a rumor, as Ferrari has yet to release an official statement regarding the matter. If the pointless effect continues till the Spanish round, the Italian team can almost kiss the championship battle good bye, as it would be almost impossible to come out first if the team does not score for five races in a row.
However, team boss Stefano Domenicali mentioned in China that the team is currently working on a new diffuser kit for the F60 since the double deck diffuser design is now considered legal by the FIA, and that the team plans to implement the new design in time for the Spanish race. The Italian team is definitely going through a rough time right now, with one of its worst seasonal starts for the past decade.

This is the price that they had to pay for focusing on defending the '08 championship title with McLaren Twisted Evil . Unlike Brawn GP (formerly Honda F1), Toyota & RBR which started their development of their '09 cars earlier last year. These teams r much compatitive compared to last year's stronger compatitors namely McLaren, Ferrari & BMW now..

Anyway, Ferrari might s well focus on development for nxt season if they hav to completely redesign the whole aerodynamic of F60 just to incorporate the new double-deck diffuser. Now they know how Renault F1 team felt last season.. lol!

thats a good point aphong. however, they were initially very promising in their pace during preseason testing and also they had michael schumacher help them develop that F60 (not that anything that michael tests will turn into gold, but it shows how much effort they have put in). Its just a combination of bad decisions and bad luck on their part. also they have been caught out by the interpretation of the diffuser, that was just plain master play by brawn.

Yeah, their pace was fast enough until when Brawn GP joins in..hehe..infact, their off-season testing was way better compared to McLaren & BMW and yet, they still fail to score a point..

kudos to Kimi & Felipe for driver's error in Albert Park, team error in Sepang and reliability issue in Shanghai.

Anyway, in Sepang, rumour has it that it was Michael's decision to change to full wet tyres early and also the team mistake for assuming Felipe's time in Q1 was good enough to qualify for Q2.

Looks like F60 is not only the problem Ferrari are facing now Twisted Evil
