Changing Header Bolts to Stainless

Recommended Posts

Last weekend decided to have a go at changing the header bolts for stainless.
Being rather nervous about it having seen on other forums how the oem bolts are made of cheese armed with a tin of Plus Gas let battle commence
1 gave all bolts a squirt of plus gas left it for 20 mins
2 now time to attack thought i would try the outside headers first hear goes tighten first then start to undo with a lot of creaking and cracking 1 then 2 then 3 then 4 bolts all out none snapped party
3 now to try the inside 2 headers all 4 bolts are very tight didnt want to snap them so gave them a good soaking and left them over night.

Next morning out to the garage more Plus Gas wait 20 mins then sh1t or bust hear goes the usual creaking and cracking turn out a bit back in a bit 1 out 2 out 3 out 4 out applause Breathed a very big sigh of relief and fitted the Stainless Bolts with Copper Grease Job Done party

Nice 1 m8, its a scarey moment trying to get them sods out, puts the wind up u when they creak away cos if they snap u in a world of pain.

Will add if peeps are doing this job, Plusgas is defo the way to go as, unlike wd40, it is a penetrating oil. Also best get the engine hot and drop the oil cooler down to give gud access to the inner bolts.
Also when fitting the stainless ones give them a gud coating of copper grease before fitting. thumbs
