My next bike?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

My insurance is up for renewal in November, and, as i'm off my restriction then also, im looking for something different to hoon about on!

Currently been looking at (all with about the same insurance):

Suzuki TL 1000 S
Suzuki Bandit 1200 S
Suzuki RF 900 R

What do you fine people think of the selection, and do you have any others to look at? Preferably something with at least a bikini fairing but open to all ideas! Budget under £2,000...

Cheers! thumbsparty

tbf asking what bike to get next is like asking what tyres to use, asking what paint to spray your bike.. its a personal choice.... get what you want, not what someone else says to get. Just remember though, full fairings cost a lot more to replace than a naked bike lol

It seems so difficult to find a real nice one though! I like the black with red stripes one - thats a nice design and not too scouse shell-suity like the purple, yellow and silver one lol!

Yours looks absolutely mint mate, fancy errm, lending it to me for an indefintie period? Very Happythumbs

I really like the rf and think they're a true underdog which is my kind of thing but j just can't see past the rear light. It's just so wide. Still like em despite it but can't say I want one.

What about the gazer thou?

Hi guys,

Currently been looking at:

Suzuki TL 1000 S
Suzuki Bandit 1200 S
Suzuki RF 900 R

As fr499y said, it is all about personal choice and what pushes your buttons. As for the three you listed, I've not owned a binnedit as I'm just not a fan hide but I've had the other two. Didn't much like the TL, it just seemed like a lot of effort to ride what felt like like an unrefined bike. The RF900 (and 600 come to that) are very good value because they were pretty much overlooked and under rated, the 900 offer plenty of 'bang for the buck' but the problem is finding a decent one as they are getting long in the tooth now.

Hmmm what else? I think the SV1000 was a let down after the 650, just didn't do it for me, but if a V-twin is your bag have a look at the later Firestorms (I think the post 2001 ones had a bigger tank so you could get more than 50 miles on a tank Very Happy ) or for the quirky option maybe an Aprilia Falco (an ex had one from new but parts availability was dire).

Inline fours? The lardy option is a Thunderace but the ZX9R is a far better all round bike and you should get an E model for your budget fairly easily.

Something different? How about a Triumph Daytona? The older rounder pre 2001 models are actually liked better by the pipe and slipper brigade, but the 2002 onwards model (which actually came out in 2001) is a damn decent bike. Comfy, physically big, lots of torque from the triple engine, decent fairing They handle well enough to show up power rangers on more mainstream litre bikes and chuck out 147BHP.

Small child has one (after lots of nagging to take a test ride on one) and loves it to bits after an inline 4, especially as his insurance on it was almost 20% cheaper than on his ZX6R. There is a few rough ones about, but laddo picked his up for a couple of hundred quid under your budget.

Bear in mind that the second hand market is *very* slow at the moment - just have a look at all the unsold stuff on ebay or the repeated ads on MCN or biketrader, prepare to play the waiting game and you should get a good buy.

Above all, remember that anyone's opinions are worth what you paid for them thumbs

Cheers for all the advice everyone!

Macie i was looking at Falcos but the insurance is way, way too high! The Daytona isnt a bad shout though, if not a little hard to find one in good nick under £2k. I like the idea of 'physically big' aswell!

The Thunderace i was looking at but i have the same problem as with the RFs; there just doesn't seem to be many nice ones about anymore Sad

Bloke rode to my work on a TL S today, riding position seemed good, however i could do with a slightly higher seat. Apparently this is easy to acheive with the TL S as the seat is secured by 4 bolts, so its a case of just extending the reach of the lower ones using a small plate! This would give more room for my 37" long legs aswell! Very Happy

thumbs

i can second the Daytona shout, great alternative sport bike nice and comfy for longer trips (with bar risers on) and not to slow considering its added size and weight but the zx9r has more get up and go if less precession in the handling. id say go tls or R as i love em and u dont see many about also cheaper to insure then a few of the other options.
