CARB' QUESTION??

Recommended Posts

I have got a pair of Triumph "Not road legal" mufflers for my little Bonnie; now,-- being a carburettor model, will I have to have the carb's readjusted,?--
as is necessary with efi--(re-mapping )?.

When I tried them, the bike started back-firing---not a lot, but enough to seem something was not quite right scratchRolling Eyes .
Any advise is appreciated..

they will pop and burble, not back fire. most carbed bikes will pop on deceleration with a 'race' can fitted where as fuel injected wont ( most likely a bang and the odd flame with fuel injected ) however, i know they do recommend getting them jetted for the trumpet race mufflers Smile

Lot of people confuse the popping with back firing, difference is, you will hear one near the exhaust, the other under the tank/in the air filter which would really shit you up!

Was the backfiring out of the exhaust (usually with a flame) or something called popping back which is not as severe and can be either out of the exhaust or back through the carbs?

MOST carb'd bikes will benifit from getting
the carbs looked at after fitting open pipes,
not all, one exception is the early B12 that
normaly runs better with an unrestricted can.

Modern injected bikes (with smart ECU's) arent as bad.
I swap between stock can's, Yoshi open's,
Yoshi's with baffles and Staintune can's on my Busa/King.
All run well and are safe enough for the motor.
Modern ECU's will adjust and compensate.

We ran 2 identical B-Kings, back to back on the Dyno,
One 100% stock, One with open Yoshi can's.
They had identiacal air-fuel ration's and
the stock bike made 1hp MORE !
Can's did nothing as the EXUP valve and Cat in
the front section were identical.

Carb'd bikes arent so smart.
The very least i'd do would be have a good ride,
get it up to temp, find a good fast section,
then pull over and check the plugs.

A dyno run with a sniffer would be much better though.

Yepp, Cool this is what it is, After being used to the Sprint1050,
(the last bike I had). They are known for the burble& pop's; The Bonnie seemed so quiet on the after-run, 'till I changed to (naughtier-pipes).
That said-- the sound through these pipes is addictive, and the standard ones now seem feeble,so I'll keep those for M.O.T. time.
No difference in performance tho'.

Thanks for bothering to reply guys,-- appreciated-- thumbs
