obalanga 0 Posted September 2, 2014 I bought my bike in december with 15k miles and have added 2.5.k sine then. It struck me that I may need to have the big service done. I had a casual chat with the mechanic what that would entail and cost. He said oil and oil filter change, air filter change, plugs, brake pad check. Surely there is more to this if I will be forking out 150 quid. Is there anythingmore technical I should expect for the " big" service?

smilinjack 0 Posted September 2, 2014 Well, according to the V Strom owners forum it will be due a valve check. They don't seem unduly shim hungry but it is most common on the first check to have to adjust them, which involves cam removal. So it would be a biggie, pure and simple. On most bikes like this ( my Speed Triple and VFR among them) service ranges from probably around £250 privateer to as much as £500 from a stealership. PS check your service history of course.PPS any mechanic who hasn't told you this may be best avoided.
