Run PSFC for the day!

Question is, what would you do if you had control of PSFC for 1 day? What would you do for members, how would you improve it, what would you add or remove...

Tell us and you could just do that, you could be Mr Mayor for the day and run PSFC, the best ideas will win, so get posting your ideas right now. We're looking for original ideas, ideas that will make members want to stay at PSFC and be even more active and ideas to get even more members joining PSFC.

Hmmm... I would:

Probably gift extra 500 paw pounds to every active member. Then I`d ban all known scammers,and thieves. Then I`d create a PSFC 1 day competition where you could win 10 000 paw pounds + 300 reputation points. Then I would add more staff and team to improve PSFC. I would take off all warnings for players who don`t deserve them. Then I would create a special forum viewable only to special members who are trustworthy. In that forum we could chat why were some members banned and what is our opinion about current members. Then I would probably create a good night competition where you could post a good night song for me,and then I would finish my daily run!

I'm too new so I probably won't make a very good Mr. Mayor...hee hee. But it would be awesome if there was like a trainer/trainee program...even with all the threads and reading I've done...it would be nice to have like a 'big sis/bro' to watch out for newbies like me...you know, if I get a bit too 'wild or naughty' they are in charge. Or even just a trainee step by step handbook on basics thread. Then, the trainer can maybe earn extra coins/points or a special doll for ps to show how many newbies they help or something like that. AND, each trainer can turn those coins/points into entries for weekly drawings or food is always good. I food. Just a thought...good luck to everyone else! Can't wait to see more ideas but so far, I'm really happy to be here!

I think what I would do is start a story corner or some sort of creative place outside of the gallery. That way people could write about the adventures of their pets and post pictures to help tell a story. I love to write little pet stories, but here there's no place to post them.

If I was Mayor for a day, I would:

Grant all new members a Welcome Basket—including a fruit, a drink, a flower, and a basket to put it in. Welcome Basket could be awarded when minimum post count has been made.

Award a Good Neighbor badge (or PSFC Recruiter badge or something like that) to members who invite others to join PSFC. Badges could be awarded when minimum post count has been made. (Or some other achievement by new member.)

Start a weekly Room-Makeover Raffle. Every week when the new items come out, participants contribute a new item or items from that week. For every item put in, they get one raffle ticket. At the end of the week, a random number is drawn and the winner gets the whole lot of new items.

Declare a monthly Clean Sweep Day of PSFC, where all members logging in are strongly encouraged to search for their old threads and whatnot and delete/close what's not being used to help our tech team keep the site clean.

Declare the Mayor to be Dictator of All and be given a food or drink item daily by all members logging in to the site each day, and require members to begin each post by stating 'The Mayor is Dictator of All'.

Have the fonts on the site change randomly in color, size and typeface just to confuse everyone.



Technical Stuff

Organizing (IMHO)

I would move Trading and Wish Lists up into the PSFC Neighborhood.

And I would move PSFC News, Forum Help and Advice, and Pet Society/Forum Guides in to the PSFC Neighborhood. These items aren't always as accessible because you have to click back to Forums to find them rather than just using the crumb/trail/thread links to go back to PSFC Neighborhood. Also they're all about Pet Society and PSFC and I think they belong in the Neighborhood.

And I would move Music Club, Movies/TV, Agony Aunt and Game Arcade into their own little section below somewhere. They're not directly related to PS or PSFC (although Agony Aunt sort of is...) and IMHO don't need to be so high up in the list of links. Or perhaps these 4 could be added to their own section in the Cafe—I think they would fit in there nicely since they are more about socializing and off-topic discussions.



Customizing

On the Portal Page - love that my user name and avatar are right there in the top right so I can see that I'm logged in. What I'd really LOVE to be able to do with that box is customize it, or at the very least, have it list the threads I'm currently watching. Right now, I can click to profile, which is OK, but I'd rather it list most recently visited threads, or make it so I can list my favorite links there.

Or - I'd like to link to my very own custimizable PSFC page, where it's not a thread, but my own PSFC home page where I can post stuff about me or my pet or whatever. So it's kind of like a profile page, but it's viewable by others.



Beautification

The Portal Page - once again I love the newer little section headers, etc. And the top banner is great (great artist eh!!!), but with the additional scrolling bars, and invitations and such, it's starting to look like there's about 4 headers up there all competing for attention. Can some of that info be moved to the Home page (like the whole #1 fan site ad)? Remove the purple 'get involved' bar? Remove the purple bar below the row of red links? Put the info that's in the scrolling bar into it's own little box on the side with links? Or in the center, replacing the #1 Fan site ad?

I don't want to be negative about the ads or announcements or lead-ins... but after awhile it seems like overkill advertising all the fun things to do on PSFC. Maybe those items should be reserved for the Home page - or a special Newbies link or something like that.

Also, the top banner, as wonderful as it is, it does take up a lot of screen space. Could it just be used when you first log in, but not on all the forum pages. Or maybe a smaller version of it could be used. As much as I like the picture, it bugs me that it takes up so much real estate. Maybe it would be best used on the Home Page or Portal Page. Or maybe the design needs to be narrowed down, a lot! Or condensed and incorporated with some of the info in the fan site ad?


In closing, if I was Mayor for a day, I would make me get off my soap box now!

Oh! One question - The Chat Box is always at the top of my pages now. Is there a way to turn that off or remove it? Or is that intentional? (Whoops, that was two questions.)

Only problem I can see with any of them is the cleaning of the forums.
we dont delete any threads..or it would mess up members rep points, post count and paw pounds. I tend to leave threads in the site for 3 months for trading, and 2 months for the cafe ( I normally have a clean up at the end of each month) If we remove too many threads it makes the forum seems really quiet. It would help though if members asked for threads to be closed when finished though so members dont post in old threads

Also giving out gifts is great in principle, but very expensive...would be great if we had unlimited funds..but we dont

We are limited on what we can do by the server unfortunately as I love the idea of customized home page! That would be great!

oops forgot to say as well that the guides are currently being moved...there is a new section going in as we type.

THe PSFC neighbourhood is not aimed at PS...it is for all general boards, and PS boards are kept seperate...as we say PSFC is for more than just pet society lol x

How about a streamlining of the welcome pack/buddy idea, that members volunteer to be a buddy for new members and the buddy will provide a welcome pack of up to 500-1000 coins depending on their finances.

Members subscribe to a thread volunteering to buddy a new member, and somehow (not quite sure how) they are paired with new members, provide a welcome pack and offer a point of contact for any help/advice the new member needs, which could include referring to a Mod if needs be.

If I were Mayor for the day the only thing I'd do today, is simplify the site.

Speaking personally, and for a lot of C&G members, it can be very 'busy' on the screen. There's a huge amount of content and that often means that you don't actually look at most of it. Some of us tend to filter stuff out in our brain, which means we miss looking at stuff that would actually interest us - we're overwhelmed sometimes.

Thought should be given to members who have either very old computers, or, slow/unreliable connections - or, even worse - BOTH of those!

Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of great content, but it can be intimidating, and for myself I'm a fan of clear and more simple really.

hmm if i were in control of PSFC for one day i would............


i would make a thread it would be called COMPLETED TRADES

all psfc members who have traded in this forum successfully post the link to the trade

then every week one link will be randomly selected by numbering the links and using a random generator to pink the number

the winner ( the person who posted the completed trade link , not the other trader)
would win 1000 paw pounds

for every warning given to a member they will lose 100 of their paw pounds

to make more people active , i would send out invites to invite them to a quiz in the chatroom at a certain time to make sure they can be there and prepare

each answer that is correct will win them 20 paw pounds




i might assign badges to the starters of the 4 groups


BAC creator
FAD creator
Twilight creator
C&G creator

only if they wanted the badge , but in their profile their rank would be listed


I would hold a competition called (your junk for our treasure)

the person who donates most of their unwanted items to pscf storage will win either something rare or more paw pounds

the items raised will go to some of the lower level pets owned by some of the members of the forum ( im pretty sure everyone would be truthful , it is a nice place after all)

the most loved game will be added to the other games list





another thing to do would create a PSFC original Collection Book ,
another tab would be added to our profile (if this is even possible)
and can only be changed by admin/moderators

one type of sticker would be hidden 20 times each day over any of the active threads throughout the forum section with a hint to where it is

if they find the sticker they would pm it to the mayor or other admin/moderators to add
the picture to the new collection tab on their profile , once they have found all the stickers for the collection say (5 different stickers per collection) will get a reward

each collection stickers will be of ps items ( like the ones we have in ps)

except instead of bronze, silver and gold
it would be different colors example : pink,blue,purple,yellow,green etc.



i would also make a thread for people to come to, to all chat in one thread if everything else is active so that its easier to find people



the last thing i would do is make a thread to post all png ps item pictures in , so that if anyone wanted them for their signature or for a thread their making they can go there and wont have to use ones with yellow behind the pictures

I would add to the Pet Society/ Forum guides a Stickie with every item from every Mystery egg in Pet Society. And bring the chatroom back on top of the forum if it is possible.
