♥ THE FEBRUARY CHAT- Part 4! ♥

ROFL Laughing

I am so sorry if I write a lot of American English, I've always done that (blame it on the TV!!) congratulations

Aha earth bound, that's a slip I think, that has something to do with spirits, oops!
Okay, earthy colors it is!

I like bright blue most, then purple I think and then bright green. That's about it. (and silver, but this could be a discussion whether that's a colour or not)

Thanks Gill

You know, when I'm actually speaking I am SUCH a stickler for correct grammar and an "english" geek, but I have spent years communicating with colleagues whose first language is not english (and also lived in US for a while) and I've noticed that I have started to pick up "Angli-can" congratulations (using "y'all", "kinda", "dunno") and other types of euro-speaking ..particularly when typing ...I seem to "copy" the grammar that they use (even if it's not right) Ashamed

BG - I am always amazed by the way you type in English though - I think you have a real skill for expression that I could never hope to achieve in another language !

I could discuss the nuances of 'cream' and 'beige' for a long, long time rofl.
The girl side of our family major in the artistic/humanities and have a little extra oomph on the genes for colour and pedantry viz a viz spelling and grammar.
Although my sloppy on line typing wouldn't always make you aware of that.

I don't mind typing y'all or dunno etc. though as it can sound too po faced to type all the time to people who never hear you speak or gesture,

Ih8 txt spk tho

Wish, I think I copy a lot from TV and books (and sometimes magazines).

It's been (thinking...) about 9 years ago I think I had to take an English course. So I think I have self-educated myself a bit the last couple of years. I think that's a shame though, they should make some languages compulsory, even if you have a shortened education like me now.

Soo... Is silver a colour or not :p

LaughingLaughing Me too. I have I-Phone and it also hates txt speak and it;s very difficult to use letter and numbers in the same word (Gosh I hate it when you want to use smilies in a multi-quote and it just adds at the bottom of the reply Mad ..starting to get on my nerves a bit
congratulations )

Laughing well it's not a colour.....but you can print in silver for sure

It's a moot point (do you know this? it means debatable) whether one could say that silver is a colour or not.

Essentially not, as it's an element and you can't properly recreate it,

That said - if I tell you I had a silver dress or a silver bag (I don't btw) you'd be able to visualise what I meant, wouldn't you?

So - why is 'gold' quite routinely accepted as a colour?

For me, gold is not a "colour" either ...LOL, cos I had typed almost exactly what you said in your post Gill. It's a moot point. Just because it's not a colour, doesn't mean it's not a "colour"...even in printing

First time I hear about 'moot point' congratulations

Sorry, was a bit distracted, having two discussions going on at the same time (three if you count the colour debate here) about teacher diplomas here... I'm actually toying with the idea to combine my masterthesis (next year) with a specific teacher education, so I'm looking up info and talking about it with my sister and BF, quite the discussion congratulations

I'd notified Admin about that Wish, but as it's on a picture and not just text, it has to wait until it can be redone.
Lea corrected the typo in the C&G box at the left of the site though Smile

LOL the moot point crops up a lot in English debate BG

See, I think gold is more widely accepted as a variation of the yellow through to orange colour scale, than silver is accepted as a shiny variation on a white-grey theme...I suppose because gold doesn't necessarily have to shine, whereas a dull silver morphs into pewter Laughing

Am watching The Brits, my god it's dire so far, really dire!

The Brits, what's that about?
Am watching the final episode of the designers, where they choose a winner blah blah, but only with a half eye though, I'm messing around a bit in the meantime (gave up looking up information about advanced educations), waiting for bedtime

The debate about black and white not being colours is as old as the hills, but if they weren't transferable, where would that leave newsprint? Laughing
There's that very old joke,

Q. 'what's black and white and red all over?'

A. A newspaper! 8)

The Brits is a music awards show.

Transmitted live, but with a 5 minute delay (because they never quite know what artists might say) Already Liam Gallagher Fd and blinded his way through an 'acceptance speech' threw the microphone into the audience and followed that with the award to Oasis for the best album (since the Brits started 30 years ago)

Guess he wasn't all that impressed, which makes you wonder why he bothered to attend

Lol @ the joke!! That is actually true, never realised that!!

Oh pooh, I wanted to take a quick look whether I could see The Brits, but I can only watch Holby City (BBC 1) or the winter olympics (BBC 2).
That Gallagher guy is something special, I wonder if he really is the way he acts or if it's just another act...

He's just a total *insert word* ED had to spend some time with him at work, his language was foul and he was as moody and petulant as the worst toddler tantrum ever was - also totally obsessed with his brother (this was not too long after they announced the break up) She couldn't stand him.

Shame you can't watch and comment along with us.

Boo! Boogs!!! :hugs@

Lady Gaga cancelled the planned performance and did that one as a tribute to Lee McQueen (of Alexander McQueen corp) who took his own life last week - apparently they were friends.

OH and I are arguing over her, he thinks she's a total weirdo and rubbish...I say at least she sings live, and I think it's a big marketing job and she could be bigger than Madonna (long term)

I can't believe the cut of her leotards though

JLS is the act that gets me *speechless over the absolute tripe that people will pay for*

I haven't followed the entire show, but I do read the gossip in the magazines and he has offended a lot of successful Dutch designers wrongly. He was also the guy who started the show saying "I'm going to win this thing", which I didn't like at all.

aaaw, Lady Ga Ga was all overwhelmed, she is wearing a white version of an Alexander McQueen original that he made for her - it was red originally.

Eek Dizzy Racal, should they have let him on stage? (I'm not sure what kind of back stage refreshments he's partaken)*

ED met him too, he was djaying on time when her b/f was on a set - she didn't recognise him and said, he'd been ok but his music could be refined a bit

ROFL

*whatever it was it's not left him with a good look!

Florence is a good singer though.
