Hello Ruth, this year was the first year I've struggled with this. I decided to just write on a large note saying "ATTENTION:This Home does not partake in the celebration of Halloween". No one knocked because they could see the sign before they walked to the door. This was the best way because it helped me to avoid the awkward speech. :)
