random kawasaki fact

Recommended Posts

been looking at clutch kits for my zxr and posted about it on the practical sportsbike magazine fb page seeing how its their forte
and was suprised to be informed that zxr's with its racing pedigree is fitted with a non active slipper clutch a guy on there was kind enough to send me this link explaining how to make it active not that its really neede on a normal road bike but its simple enough to set up and a trick thing never the less so im gonna give it a go (awaiting parts now) also someone else has supplied me with a kawasaki race tec manual pretty sure these are not avalible to the general public.

although this clip is from a modern honda the technology is the same

cant wait to get it set up and on the road will let you know how it goes thumbs

Mine, and some other I've ridden, suffer from "loading up"
the back torque limiter when I decelerate, and I get a
CLUNK when I pull away again, going down through the
gears approaching traffic lights for instance.
Some do it, some don't.

The BTL also spoils the clutch on real hard launches.
For quick get-always or launches as the drags its hard
to get a smooth launch using lots of revs and slipping
the clutch.

I grew up with Katana's, Z1000's, GSX's, XT500's etc.
You soon learnt NOT to bang it down the gears as you'd
lock up the rear wheel. I don't think I'll miss it.

I do understand its use, and maybe novice riders or
wanna-be GP racers will benifit, but there are quite
a few Busa and King owners who don't like it, hence
the kits to remove it. My GSX14 is much nicer as is
my mates GSXR1000. Better design maybe.

To be fair, many owners don't mind it.

So's mine, but it wont be when I "fix it".
Hate it, mine's going in the bin.

is that because you dont get the engine braking Tony ? dont think I ride mine hard enough to make any difference Embarassed

Tbh i dont think i will push it enough to really notice the differance but its a trick thing to have fitted and if i decide i dont like it,its easy enough to change it back...also the slipper kit is cheaper than a standard one

Dave, Take my rant with a big pinch of salt.

I don't like the King/Gen2's back torque limiter,
but to be fair there's a lot of owners quite happy with it.
The fact the bits are there to "fix" it tells me I'm not alone,
the fact most folk dont, tells me I'm in a minority.

I'm not total anti-BTL's, I just don't like the one I have in the King.
The 1400 and Gen1 Busa feel quite different.
Mines been in bits, cleaned and checked but still the same.
