To know that I have to do this every 3 months, doesn't make me get used to it.
My arm always turns out a bit black & blue (but when I go see his wife, she's DR too, and she draws my blood, it's much worse, then I can hardly use my arm)

owwwieee..... Are your veins that bad?? Is there someone else in the office that can try?? My dad had leukemia and had to have lots of blood work done, and when he went, he would only let certain people do his draws ..

Ugh, you sound like me BG, I have TINY TINY TINY veins, and they roll, and noone can every draw blood from me, without really hurting me. I always end up with horrible bruises.

I have very small veins and every time they stick a needle in them, they roll away (or something like that). On top of that, they are very hard to be seen. I usually get it done by the manly DR, he's pretty good

You laugh but it's true!

I have veins that go into hiding as soon as they hear of a needle in the room - and I used to be a blood donor, so trust me, I know what I'm talking about, it's years of experience I'm sharing with you!

EDIT

Hah! see BG knows what I'm talking about 8)

We've been ships that pass lately yes.

I always try to go to the man, but sometimes it's unavoidable and I have to see the lady.

I am glad you have good veins, I wouldn't wish this to anyone
But we try to make it 'positive' over here, they always talk me through the entire procedure and we try to have a little laugh with it.

I once had the accident of my vein opening again... Now that's awful!

Oooh what about my swollen knees?? (sounds so sexy.)

hello BG, Kijo and Tanya

I'm a blood donor (I'm going tomorrow evening) and I don't seems to have problems with my veins - yes on few occasions I have ended up with big bruise but that depends on who is the one "sticking the needle in". I have been giving blood for few years now so I'm used to it but I can't look at the needle going in - I don't fear the pain but I have to look away for some reason.

Sorry to hear about your pain and suffering girls :hug;

Lol, funny veins you've got there : D
Whenever I know I have to get my blood drawn, both of my arms hurt like crazy and no one is allowed to touch them then : D

I wish! if only it were so simple.

I know it sounds like I think it's a complete cure-all, but, from experience of bruising really easily and badly, it's amazing how helpful it is both with the pain of bad bruises and with the healing process.

The gel I have that has witch hazel with it too is just amazing and when you have an injury that's hot and swollen, it's so soothing and helps recovery (as I discovered after trapping my hand in a car door once)

People in the know take arnica tablets prior to surgery, to help with the later healing.

I am glad that they are aware of the problem and try to work with you ... make sure that you have your system well hydrated when you go. That is the only time they have had trouble with my veins .... once I had no liquids for like .. 36 hours .. and they couldn't stick me ... had to get the ICU nurse to do it ...

Nothing but good
I actually was playing Guitar Hero on Nintendo DS and got stuck playing 'Ruby' the entire time. But then I replaced Ruby with Zoonie and it was more fun congratulations (Kijo tried to make me sing Joki in stead of Ruby, but that didn't work out at all lol)

Perfect!

Ruby is Zoonie's special theme tune, naughty Kijo.

I'm considering purchasing a giant vat on wheels full of arnica gel and making Kijo sit in it all the time Laughing

I always try to drink plenty of water 24 hours before I have to give blood or do a blood draw ..

I don't know how much it helps, but it makes me feel better, and they love to see me because I am never any trouble ....

I get invite every 4 months - unfortunately I don't get time off for that but I go in the evening after work as my local session is 10 minutes from my house.
It's still cold here (about 3 degrees today) and in my village we still have snow but here in central London the snow is completely gone.
Because our office is in very very old buidling and we have c**p windows here I have borrowed a small blow heater to keep me warm
congratulations

how are you Tanay? Yes we have not spoken for a while Ashamed

Good morning everyone

Hope you're all well, I'm just getting over the dreaded winter virus (yak!) it's just a tickly cough now but has been awful and with the cold weather makes you feel ten time worse.

Oh well, have a busy day again...I just seem to catch myself running backwards lately but I'll try and pop back later.

Have a great day Laughing

Hello Frannie and Dawn

Yes Tanay - we are also told to drink plenty of fluids before blood donation or blood test as it (IMO) helps the blood flow better.

There is new thing now here in UK and while you waiting for a free bed to donate you have to drink a pint of water - they say it helps with the fluid loss.

Really? No one has ever told me that, but glad you guys tell me this now!
I never drink enough fluids in one day (started with a lot of tea a couple of weeks ago, but gave up already Ashamed )

I really think that it helps... When we give blood, they bring us something to drink, cola-juice-water, and we HAVE to drink it all before they let us leave. Has to do with fluid loss and they don't want us to get dizzy ....

I don't feel back to normal yet after new year, isn't that strange, mind you, I always think January's a funny month.

IMOM got to work ok and back again yesterday, very crowded with a half size train, but he is so cold too, there's something wrong with their building and it's like sitting outside. He's going in more and more and more layers each day!

I used to be like you but now I'm making more effort to drink fluids - here at work I have a 1.5L bottle of water on my desk so I'm better at it but at the weekend I slip up and don't drink as much - but if you do it will help your body to flush out all the nasties and stuff that cannot be processed and it will also help your skin too. I can always see it on my face on monday morning Sad

I've never been able to drink 1,5L on one day. But I made some tea again, it's about 1L, and if I really make an effort, I'm able to drink it all. It does give me more energy too. don't know why but sometimes I can't put myself to it.
