speaking of faucets (calling it a tap doesnt bother me, cause when you get water from the faucet, its called "tap water" here.)
I tried the garlic trick Dawn wrote down in the kitchen hints thread, and it works like WONDERS!!! (laughing at me feeling up on the sink.

Basin.... its like an old-timey word here for like a still bath.... so i was confused, thinking you had 2 of them? lol.

Builders never get things right !! When we built our last house, we wanted a certain type of ceiling in the dining room ... one that we saw in another house that he had just finished ... and they got it wrong ....

I'd love to take credit for the *feeling up the sink* garlic trick hun, but it was Frannie's tip. I also tried it and it works wonders and I laughed while I felt up the sink too Laughing

Me too, sink weirdos ROFL!

Tanya I put some recommendations on the Book Club thread, fear I might be a bit too err mature for some of the readers there though -
as in not suitable content, not as in wise or clever.

One book I enjoyed as light reading was Still Life With Chickens by Catherine Goldhammer.

Sometimes I like historical, sometimes crime and/or moider(sic) thrillers, or *checks to see who's looking* some lighthearted frothy chic-lit
I like biographies and other non fiction too.

Gill ... the first novel in the series is called Outlander ..

this is a review of it ...

Absorbing and heartwarming, this first novel lavishly evokes the land and lore of Scotland, quickening both with realistic characters and a feisty, likable heroine. English nurse Claire Beauchamp Randall and husband Frank take a second honeymoon in the Scottish Highlands in 1945. When Claire walks through a cleft stone in an ancient henge, she's somehow transported to 1743. She encounters Frank's evil ancestor, British captain Jonathan "Black Jack" Randall, and is adopted by another clan. Claire nurses young soldier James Fraser, a gallant, merry redhead, and the two begin a romance, seeing each other through many perilous, swashbuckling adventures involving Black Jack. Scenes of the Highlanders' daily life blend poignant emotions with Scottish wit and humor. Eventually Sassenach (outlander) Claire finds a chance to return to 1945, and must choose between distant memories of Frnak and her happy, uncomplicated existence with Jamie. Claire's resourcefulness and intelligent sensitivity make the love-conquers-all, happily-ever-after ending seem a just reward.

More books

by Alexandra Fuller

also read her Scribbling the Cat

and a book I love and must re-read is The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, has anyone read it? I think it's brilliant.

That sounds good Tanya, reminds me a bit of the Time Traveller's Wife, which I enjoyed.

PS the Curious Incident is by Mark Haddon.

Bye for now Kijo xxx

Oh yes, I've read My Sister's Keeper and The Lovely Bones, both tricky, but good.

I've just searched my local library, they have the Outlander series, but not all at my branch - and they're out on loan now, will keep an eye open.

OH had made a cottage pie base mix, but I wasn't happy with it. The carrots and onions were too large and too under-cooked, and he hadn't cooked it down enough, so the balsamic vinegar still tasted too much instead of melding in to the gravy to enrich it. Oh, and for a completely inexplicable reason he totally forgot to add any tomato or passata or anything at all tomatoey

So - I was deconstructing it, and sorting it all out.

LOL - I'm a bit anal over the size of my veggies when they're "in" something too. Although I don't use tomotoes in cottage pie mince myself, but I've had it when other people have made it and it's yummy Smile

What's your day brought then ?
OH had to go for gastroscopy today - they say he has a hiatus hernia and needs to take tablets forever as there is nothing else to be done. No spicy food Sad He thinks he is getting old LOL.

Oh dear. Well, at least his condition's being managed. MY OH has been on medication since he was ooh how old - err...about 35 I think. His blood pressure was the highest they'd ever experienced at the hospital clinic and even beta blockers didn't bring it down!

I absolutely adore tomatoes in any form. I had a pyloric stenosis when I was a baby until I was 18 months old and they operated, and a tomato was the first solid food I ever ate congratulations

Of course, since it's just you and me we can split the rest of the Sancerre from last night congratulationscongratulationsLaughing

BTW - do you need more items for the registry ? I can send some more stuff if you need it. If not, I'll keep the coins as I want to run a contest for newbies (level 30 and under) when I have the chance to organise it :-)

We're not doing too badly at all thanks Wish, I did put the totals in today and of course, they're available next time too.

The bathroom's looking good, but the delay I spoke about earlier up the thread has really annoyed OH.

The TV has to go away for the repair to the dvd player, and the blooming kettle has to go back too Sheesh!

Oh that's true - I forgot that the items will be available for another week. I'll keep some coins for next week and send some more stuff then.

Gosh - your bathroom may be annoying on the delay front but it looks beautiful!!

You don't seem to be having much look on the domestic appliance front though LOL

We've had a bit of trouble with our garage doors. Now, (and this shows the difference between the genders!) OH wanted to pfaff about for 2 horusin the garage in teh freezing cold trying to fix it himself (muttering under his breath about how much they were going to be to replace) I came inside and called the garage door guy that I had in our previous house - he came that afternoon and fixed both the doors for £80 8)

We're not having ANY luck with appliances. We used to before we bought this house, which was new when we got it.

So far we've had to replace the boiler and the completely integrated dishwasher within the first 5 years - even the new Miele dishwasher we bought has had to have a repair.
We've had about 6 kettles since we moved here, 3 irons 3 or 4 computers...goodness knows how many motorised valves and pumps on the heating. And thank goodness I take out insurance on the cooker as it's always needing attention.

It grieves me when I think about the house we left. Maybe we moved to a home in a magnetic field or something? congratulations

Oh and yes, our garage door is dicky at the moment too.

Oh My Sad Thankfully we seem to do quite well on the appliance front. LOL a the force field. I used to work with a guy who had a massive static problem (his hair was constantly standing on end Laughing ) and the IT guys dispaired of him - we went through a laptop every 6 months.

Now ....if you promise not to judge me I'll tell you a secret

>> this afternoon I made a Birds Trifle (ya know, out of a PACKET Ashamed )
I have never done it before, but OH loves them (apparently), so I relented. What a palava that was - quicker to make my own from scratch like usual Laughing

Don't tell anyone though - my mother and grandmothers would disown me LMAO

Hee Hee - OH and I indulge in three kinds of porn

Food Porn - collecting recipe books, reading recipe books 'experimenting' with recipes, food shopping (at nice places, not the supermarket lol) Watching TV food programmes, and then of course, eating!

House Porn - studying the property market, pouring over details and redesigning everything, even if we're not interested in the place and/or viewing showhouses (from time to time - not for ages though)

and

Domestic Porn
(incorporating excessive viewing of the Lakeland Cataglogue)
which also covers OH's 'pot fetish' (this week it was the purchase of a Chasseur 30cm enamelled buffet casserole *sigh*

Care to share?

PS my guilty pleasure, as you know, is tinned soup

LOL....hhhmmmm...my only other one to add is

Fashion Porn....basically checking out Primark items and seeing if we can make a great outfit ! (actually I can do this as I am sitting here in my £5 sale jeans from H&M, my cheapie fake Uggs (don't laugh) for £10, a hoodie borrowed (stolen) from my S-D, and my 30p militia hat form Primark LOL
...or otherwise known as "What IS she wearing"

Hee Hee, our Fashion Porn is a bit different..for years the girls and I have taken those pages in magazines where they put outfits together and re-coordinate them.

You all have to look and then point a the same time Laughing

ED was a major Primark fan when she was studying - remember she went to the London College of Fashion, and always worked in fashion too, she still longs to go back to Grazia, but she has some major amazing news coming up about who she may be meeting soon in a promo event. Sadly I'm swore to secrecy on pain of death, because it can't leak out in advance, but *swoon*

I have no idea where our nearest Primark is, probably central London for ease of access - but confess, I really can't be bothered (read something beginning with A instead of bothered lol) I get most of my clothes locally these days.

Ooohh ED's news sounds fab there are only 2 people who could really make me swoon these days and they are George Clooney and Liam Neeson - that's IT!

Actualy Primark has become my guilty pleasure since losing so much weight - I don;t want to keep buying my usual clothes each time I drop a dress size s it would be way expensive, so my SD introduced me to Primark and the one in Basingstoke is awesome - nice than Selfridges I thought! LOL
