This adorable video of a young martial arts student in Florida has been shared millions of times across the internet – and it’s not hard to see why. In the video, a little boy named Phoenix Swonger is being asked to kick a wooden board in half. The test was being held at at Bobby Dixon’s American Martial Arts Academy in Orlando earlier this month. Erik Gianini, who is the manager of the dojo, tries to coach Phoenix through the test – but despite the youngster kicking the board again and again, he can’t seem to break through the plank. Frustrated by his failed attempts, the discouraged youngster starts to cry – but then, Phoenix’s classmates start to cheer him on. Full Story/Video

We are now one step closer to ditching harmful polystyrene products thanks to this new cooler than is made entirely out of biodegradable materials. Up until now, polystyrene – more commonly known as “styrofoam” – has been a popular material for disposable coolers, but it is quickly being eliminated from product supply chains because of how toxic it is for people and the environment. That’s why cooler company Igloo has just released the “RECOOL”, a biodegradable container which they are calling the “world’s first eco-sensitive cooler”. Full article / Video

The Scottish government has outlined plans for a deposit return scheme for some plastic drinking containers, cans and glass People in Scotland will have to pay a 20p deposit on every bottle or drinks can they buy from shops under a new scheme unveiled by the Scottish government. Glass and plastic bottles, as well as aluminium and steel drinks cans sold by any shop in Scotland will be covered by the deposit return scheme, the first national scheme of its kind in the UK. Scotland’s environment secretary, Roseanna Cunningham, said: “There is a global climate emergency and people across Scotland have been calling, rightly, for more ambition to tackle it and safeguard our planet for future generations. “I am therefore delighted to confirm that I intend to implement a system covering PET – the most common form of plastic packaging – aluminium and steel cans, and glass, with a deposit refund set at 20p.” The scheme gives people a “clear and straightforward way to do their bit for the environment,” she suggested. One of the most iconic US tourist hotspots is set to get an eco-friendly update. Niagara Falls is preparing to replace their current Maid of the Mist boat with the launch of the first two all-electric, zero-emission passenger vessels constructed in the United States. The Maid of the Mist ferries over 1.6 million international tourists up to the falls every year. The two new fully-electric vessels will continue taking tourists to the heart of the Niagara Falls, undisturbed by engine noise or exhaust fumes. Batteries will be recharged for seven minutes after each trip to 80% capacity, allowing for maximum efficiency and battery life. Full Story
