70s Sports Mopeds

Honda SS50 4speed fitted with 70cc top end to keep up with the Fantic cabs

like this one

These Fantic cabs where fast in there day never lasted to long as the engine would explode sounded like a wounded Bee blaging along.





Then there was the Malaguti almost as quick but also proned to a quick seize motor.

my brother had a fizzy- he kept changing the sprockets to eke out more power,he should have kept it they go for silly money now

Not really sports but it was my first road legal bike.I was 16 in 1980 and this cost £270 on the road

August 1973 Blue Honda SS50

on a 2 mile run downhill flat on tank knees in elbows in 50mph !!!

nylon tyres fell off on every roundabout in the wet no grip
yellow stadium open face helmet matching peak with blue visor.

faded denims platform sole boots we were the Biz

ken on a gilera, paul on a puch, mark on a gareli tiger cross, steve on a red ss50, steve on fs1e.

These older sports mopeds doesn't looks much stylish but these are much stronger than modern scooters.

This was it in 1971. The rich kids had Puch Maxis and Fantics were just coming in but one poor (disillusioned) boy thought he was the bees knees on this......

Motobi 3 speed; speedo said 45mph but it was definitely lying big time.....

bit after the 70's but this was my 50cc a 2001 motorhispania rx50. still had a 50's kit, but would do 70. and got 80 out of it before, wwell speedo all the way back to 0, opposite 40, and i was in the fast lane of the duel carriageway. but been followed by a car doing 75, with the engine screaming

was cracking for a 16 year old. had some nice simple tuning anyhow,
