Recommended Posts

I'm struggling on what bike to get in the early part of next year, as some of you no I had a b6 that woz nicked with upsidedown busa forks b12 swingarm an absolutely love it it was a good spec for me, quite a few extra's on it. I love the streetfighter look want something nice an cheap been looking at the b12 and a few others on the bay also like the fireblades and do something with that you know streetfighter not to much at first little by little as I have seen a few of them thats been done, I don't no much about fireblades help is well appreciated. Also what other bikes do you recommend that is cheap and cheerful but a solid bike running wise and is worth messing around doing up streetfighter wise. Thanx Micky

I paid 2k for mine. The zorsts are a bit loud for me,but im old :-)There fine cruising at 60 plus but noisey at a steady throttle at low speeds.I got a mate to ride it and it did'nt seem as loud as when im riding it.But for £160 delivered im pleased with em.
I have found baffles that fit but there £40 pair inc del.The Danmoto ones a crap.

Anything can be "fightered"
Cheap, Tough ?

Gen1 Bandit 12
GSX1100 ET / EX / EF.
TL1000R / S.
Fireblade.
Original Gpz1100,
ZRX11/12.
Gpz750 Turbo.
ZX9R (lots fightered out here)
Z1000R/1100R (Lawson rep)

I even managed to stretch my little budget
to a Hayabusa by buying one that had been
dropped with panel damage and needed tyres.

I might look at some panel damage ones now was a bit worried about that, But i suppose if there is no frame damage it will be fine

Yeh i no wot ya mean stue i like the way my b6 rode and handled espessally with the busa front end and the b12 swingarm, the thing is i want a bit more power now so am looking at the b12 and anything else wot i can do stuff to, but as i said i like the streetfighter look, not bothered about the fairings to keep the wet off me i ride all weathers even in the snow plus i do keep my bikes clean and polished.

GSXR ?

Huge list of options.
750,
1100,
7/11,
Slabsider,
Slingshot,
(Stick to Oilcooled not watercooled)
Use the GSX1100F "power screen" motor,
easy to swop front ends ect,

Yes its all been done before, but there's
a reason for that. Tough, fast, powerful,
available, and huuuuge tuneing potential.

Hornets are OK bikes to ride and do a few
minor mods but you'll never find great
performance or do running gear / performance
upgrades like a Bandit/GSXR/Busa.

Even the oldest, worst GSXR750 can be made
into a giant killer just by swapping factory parts, engine, forks etc.

There's a reason Suzuki's absolutly
dominate the Drag and streetfighter scene.

Depends how you value your performance ?

I had a Busa and a B-King but still hunted
around untill I found a Mk1 Bandit (99 model)
they have a raw basic charm that the new stuff doesnt.
Just because the newer bikes do everything better
on paper doesnt mean they are more fun.
Mk1 Bandit 12's are just big boys meccano
and are built to misbehave on... thumbs

I'd recommend a Bandit 12 all day long if your on a budget, there's plenty of them out there and parts are cheap. Just look on ebay for parts there's page after page of them.
Here's my trusty old steed, never let me down and with only a jet kit, exhaust and a set up on the dyno it went from a standard 100bhp to 114bhp.

I had it from new back in 2002 and only got rid this year.
But if you can stretch the pennies then get one of these Twisted Evil

Not a fan of the 1250 Bandit, and love the
style of the original Mk1 over the Mk2 oilcooled,
no real reason, just do. Personal taste.

My first one was a money pit.
GSXR spec motor and clutch, pipe,
filter, ignition mods, Renthals
and a 60hp NOS wet kit with a 2.5lb bottle.

Current Bandit12 is a de-faired 99 model.
Near stock but for a Yoshi can, Renthals and an SV650
headlight I had spare. Its going to be a future project one day.

Now I'm even more in a spin but it looks like a B12 and gradually ad to that, it will deffo be the mk1 I love the raw looks of them, I'll just have to make it into my own bike slowly, but I do like the blades without the fairing but I love the ride of the bandit, my b6 had a busa front end on it when I got it how hard is it to change the forks to upsidedowns, anyway I'm sure some one will be along to help knowing you guys cheers micky thumbs

Think your right there stue m1 it is an just do some tinkering with that to make it my own, but as u said before you new how much I loved my b6 so watch this space for the B12, I'll be asking for advice in the maintenance and project sections now. The only thing is I'll be commuting aswell as working on it. thumbspartythumbs

how hard is it to change the forks to upsidedowns,

Hope to USD my B12 in the next year..

The guys on ASF have done dozen's!
Few thing to think about....

Most USD fronts are shorter,
look for one of the longer one's or use a stepped top yolk
(lower on sides than centre to drop the forks)

Do you want to keep a cable drive speedo ?
if so your need a front end with a drive or to fit one.

Stems arent hard to get pushed out and changed between bottom yolks
if they are the wrong length for the frames head stock.

Will the lock-stops line up ?
Can always grind them off and drill and tap
a couple of chunky allen head bolts.

Not a fan of the Busa's 6-pots.
Even some Busa owners go back to 4-pots.
Radials on the new Busa/B-King/GSXR's are waaaaay better.
