Do you use internet explorer? Used to happen to me, I use google chrome now.

Failing that it might sound daft but are your laptop and desktop clocks set right? That can cause all sorts of issues

You can turn images on in Internet Explorer by clicking the Options menu in Internet Explorer then choose the Advanced Tab and make sure the Show Pictures check box is ticked. Click Okay and you should find that resolves the problem.

Also check you have the latest version of flash player installed.

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Try a different browser Firefox 10+ or Goggle chrome

Couple of more thing to try Dave.

Try clearing out your old cache and prefetch data.

Download CCleaner if you do not have it installed. select DNS cache and old prefetch data on the menu. click run.

http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

Try running an anti malware program, to make sure you do not have anything lurking on your computer

http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html

Both free to use programs thumbs

now im no expert on facebook or computers but it sounds like the files/pictures you are trying to view are "corrupt" or not complete if you are having the same issue on more than 1 computer i dont think it will be a computer error

and if all else fails try this
