madsod 0 Posted April 15, 2012 Just payed for a new rear on ebay , Michelin PILOT POWER . 190/50/17 big old tyre that £100 with free P&P , my mate will fit for me. i think the old tyre could be fixed with a plug , but it will be in the back of mind when im giving it the beans , so better to be safe , well untill the next screw . Davehutch-hutchs 0 Posted April 15, 2012 I would never feel right with a plug in me tyre too , alright to get you home
Tony nitrous 0 Posted April 15, 2012 I like Pilot Powers, Im VERY cautious of repairs done from the outside. To me they are strictly toget me home.However.... take the tyre off and plug itfrom the inside and all's good.I use the "penny on a stick" type plug wherethe big flat "patch" sits on the inside andyou pull the thin stem out through the hole. They can not and will not come out.Had one on my Hayabusa, 1200 miles over a weekendwith a pillion and several run's at the drags.Personal choice. Some wont, I will. Grumpyowl 0 Posted April 15, 2012 http://www.ultraseal.biz/pages/bikers.htmI think Stue would Poo Poo this.I've had 4 european trips with this in my tyres. Not had to try it in anger but was peace of mind.tyre fitters dont like hosing it out but if you pre-warn them its in the tyre i';ve had no probs.I still carry a emergency tyre repair kitbut for about £25 think this is worth it. Tony nitrous 0 Posted April 15, 2012 Out of interest, when it turns up check the date. There new and quite old tyres about. There should be a 4 digit number on the sidewall.First two are the week of the year, 01 to 52.Second two are the year. I just removed a Pilot Road 3 made 2511,The 25th week of 2011.The tyre I put on was dated 5110,51st week of 2010.There are some quite old "new" tyres about. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=
lee1 1 Posted April 15, 2012 ive had to put a plug in a tyre before and never had an issue with it,but as soon as I had the ££ I changed it, was in the back of me mind all the time
madcarper 0 Posted April 15, 2012 as tony said i would have no worries having tyre correctly plugged from the inside, but definately would not repair any other way. perhaps stue could comment as he should know.

Totally agree I've had 3 tyres plugged with those ones over the years and never had a problem with them as there is no way they're gonna come off and I've rode the same as I normally do until the tyres worn. trebor4460 0 Posted April 15, 2012 I had a spell where I got a couple of nails so had the tyre plugged properly and it was gud to go, I carry a repair kit under the seat and I would use it as a tempory repair only to get me home.
