bladerunner 0 Posted November 28, 2012 http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2012/nov/28/45p-minimum-alcohol-price-crimecant afford to ride our bikes now we cant afford to drown our sorrows.yet another tax aimed at the working man.wonder how much a bottle of bollinger will be going up.they say it "could" save up to 714 lives a year,WTF do they get that from."We are consulting on these measures because too many of our high streets and town centres have become no-go areas on a Friday and Saturday night. Just under half of all violent crimes involve alcohol and a great deal of antisocial behaviour is alcohol-fuelled," May said in her Commons statement.so the people out down town on a friday and saturday night are carrying multipacks of Stella bought from Asda three for £21 are they, I dont think so.personally I think theyre trying to push it through to get more revenue so they can say theyre the good guys who didnt put tax on fuel up and also theyre rushing it through before it becomes blatently obvious its not made a blind bit of differance in Scotland
Davehutch-hutchs 0 Posted November 28, 2012 cant see why I should be penalized ,because of these morons
lee1 1 Posted November 28, 2012 so they think it will curb alcohol related crime surely the punishment should kerb the crime not the price of alcohol
Grumpyowl 0 Posted November 28, 2012 They should stop unlimited opening hours. If pubs shut at 11pm like the old days they wouldn't have time to get so pissed. Surely 24 hour opening has a lot to do with this ?
madcarper 0 Posted November 28, 2012 in my opinion kids don't go out for a few drinks they go out to get absolutely bladdered, shots , chasers and alcopops on top of beer or whatever and then they ring you up for a lift home.
Stue11 0 Posted November 28, 2012 Never ending story this dosent matter what price a pint of ale costs the idiots that cause trouble dont need much to get em wound up imo its just penalising the innocent folk like myself who love to go out on the odd occasion and now have to pay more because of it
Tony nitrous 0 Posted November 28, 2012 Shouldnt effect your " bollinger",its only the minimum they can charge as an attemp to stop cheap bargain booze. They are trying to do the same thing here.AU has a HUGE drink culture.
stantheman 0 Posted November 28, 2012 as long as they dont put aldis white grape juice up cos ive been making some very nice wine from it for under £1 a bottle
Tony nitrous 0 Posted November 28, 2012 Bit different out here.We have "Dry area's" up North that you can not bein possesion of Alcohol.Roads or areas in or near some Aboriginal Comunitys. Its illegal to even have 1 tin in the car.Doesnt effect most folk as its really away from the soft city folk on the coast.Closer to home, the building / earthworks trade is a bit rough and ready, and attracts some folk that are too.Totaly illegal, but I know a few folk who always have what they call "travellers"A few beers to drink whilst they are driving home each day !! ptolemyx 0 Posted November 29, 2012 Minimum pricing will have it's greatest effect on low income moderate drinkers, like the single mum struggling to get by who can just about afford to treat herself to a single cheap bottle of plonk at the weekend, or me with one lowish income with a disabled wife who needs 24 hour care, provided by yours truly when I'm not slaving to pay the bills, and I have a couple of bottles of cheap cider once a week. It will do nothing to alter the behaviour of Friday/Saturday kids getting blathered or hardened problem drinkers who'll just do a bit more shoplifting/ mugging to get their fix.Old and Disgraceful
Tony nitrous 0 Posted November 29, 2012 ptolemyx, I agree. We have an area of the city called "The Valley",where all the best bars and clubs are.The glassings, stabbings, fights and the general problemsthat the police and public have to put up with there, arent caused by folk with tight budgets.Everyone spilling out of the clubs has high classdesigner clothes, watches, jewlery, aftershave and they go club to club in taxi's !!!The budget drinkers I know sit at home and relaxafter a days graft to make ends meet. Neill 0 Posted November 29, 2012 Typical HMG knee jerk reaction to apply what they see as an easy fix to a problem caused by HMG in the first place,They tackle the symptom and not the cause. "Town centres are becoming no go area's because off alcohol related crime."Well if they hadnt reduced the police force to a bunch of ticket issuing traffic wardens and allowed the courts to dish out such limp penalties for these crimes the perpetrators wouldnt be so keen.I have no problem with the extended licensing hours ( Im a confirmed lager lout myself)making a supermarket charge more wont solve the problem proper enforcement of the licencing laws will.corner shops dont care who they sell it to. if they get caught selling it to under 18's there isnt sufficient deterent to prevent them carrying onhere nearly every shop selling food has a liquor license and aint Tysky and Zubr cheaplooks like the blackmarket will win again
goferit 0 Posted November 29, 2012 HMG instigated the all night openings of bars/pubs,stopped smoking, in public places, adding extra tax to booze, is trying to solve a problem of their making, by penalising sensible people who don't cause the problems, this is typical of the 'nanny-state' mentality.Surely more stringent punishment to the perpetrators of crimes should be the way to go.(Tagging is a good way too)A lot of youngsters buy cheaper booze & get psised,on the cheap before they go out.I would prefer hmg to solve MAJOR crimes and punish the child molesters, thieves, and no goods that they have encouraged into our(rapidly declining country)the ones I mean don't drink,... you know who I mean.Course, we're not aloud to say owt to offend THEM
Tony nitrous 0 Posted November 30, 2012 I dont drink, Smoke or gamble (boring B@stard)but i'll support anyone's right to as long as it does me no harm.If you can drink and not effect me I'll support you to the end.(Dont quote police and hospital bills to the tax payer as justlike smoking they are easily covered by the tax they pay)I dont like smokers and drinkers being banned or taxed out of existance, because I have a stupid hobby called "riding a motorbike" and dont want it done to me.Too many stupid law's and do-gooders taking awayJoe Averages ability to make his own choice. To Quote Martin Niemöller:“First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a communist; Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist; Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist; Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew;Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak out for me.”
louismanx 0 Posted December 1, 2012 This was always going to happen because the health fascists have done for smoking so they need something else to focus on. The reality is the EU have said a minimum price per unit of alcohol will be illegal so it's a non starter in this guise. What will really happen is the tax or duty on alcohol will be rapidly increased instead so the effect will be the same, we all pay more. After that watch out for all the "nice" food, anything with a fat/sugar/salt content that the so called experts decide is too much. It is all supposed to be for our own good, as the title says-B******S!!!! Whatever happened to personal choice? Big brother has well and truly taken over.
