test rode the cb1000r today

Recommended Posts

ok I wasn't out long but that is a cracking bike, so smooth and torquey, power delivery was spot on in all the revs, and comfy/flickable and still has a fair few ponies behind it.

down side I found bars were at my chest. I need to adapt as im used to rididng a sports bike. so iktll be something id get used to

and does anyone know best way to get a couple more bhp out of them? it did lack top end compared to the ninja a little bit as its is 10 or so ponies down.

deffo think I will be getting one thou!

Why do you need extra ponies Chad?  Its quick enough already confused
top revs there wasn't so much of a thrill as the ninja!

Course it hasn't you turnip, that's why it's the bike it is! Rolling Eyes  A decent can will most likely give it a bit more zip, but it's going to remain a CB1000 no matter what. If you want upright riding position and big horses, Aprilia Tuono all day long. Mad as a box of frogs. thumbs

well ninja new says 143bhp being its age its probably 135 at most. the cb is rated at 128 so its not far out, its not like the old cb's its got a detuned firebalde lumps its just tuning it back up again Smile

they are mate, very short, and lack of panels. quite wide old lump thou, but its size is reflected in way it rides, so nippy, and flickable like a naked 600. yet had a 1000cc lump in it. Smile

don't want a bigger heavy bike mate Wink just not for me, I do like them thou! local one with underslung exhaust, sounds insane!

I loved the cb! but was lacking the top end thrill. but only just I know a dyno tester who is a bike tuner specialist, he will tweat your stock cdi to become better than a power commander so probably the best bet after exhaust and filters etc.

think decat would be best took. those cats are ugly!

You can't turn a CB1000R motor back into a blade.
Whilst Honda claim fireblade heritage, the truth is
the motor is from the boring a bat-sh#t CBF1000
and has different castings and internals.

Seen them dyno'd as low as 112 and 115hp which
means they are less than a 15 year old Bandit with a can.

Pretty little bikes but not performance orientated.

deffinatly had some go in it thou, if it can be around 140bhp id be happy with that as my old 40k miloes ninjas probably running less than that anyway

that's thing I want a light 1000 naked bike. speed triples not my cuppa, sound great thou, leaves z1000 or fz1 really cant insure superduke

you never know m8 Wink

yup

also tony looked into lower bhp, and that's all at the wheel bhp, on remap, exhaust and filters people are getting 125bhp at the wheel average. so that aint too sad.

not sure what ninjas at at the 140 the books say is at the crank. may get mine dynode to see what is at the wheel,

at the wheel the zx9r are getting from 122-132 bhp, and 69ft of torque

the cb is getting from 119-127bhp and around 76ft of torque with remap and exhaust

so to be fair I don't think its a big enough difference to worry about.

issue with one I tested is its in Canterbury city, I found a country lane but no where I could ring its neck fully!

but deffo think next bike is decided. Smile

and im happy to be going back to a Honda. just means what shall I do this winter, nothing to tinker with as cant spend money on the ninja now

Try an older Z1000 03-06 model, with a PCIII and some nice race cans they will pull ya arm from standing to red line! Or try out a triple, might be your thing 2thumbsBut if your planning to ride a bike at high revs, your looking at the wrong bikes.. These big torque fours are designed for the low down grunt, hence why the BHP is around the 100-120 mark and not like the sports bikes in the 150's+.

I've had virtually every type of bike, from cruiser to tourer, sport to supermoto and they all do what they are made to do despite the engines being close in size. I wouldn't be riding the xjr high in the revs because all the power you could want/need is low down, were as a lot of sports bikes you will need to thrash it a bit more to get the same outcome

totally agree, think its just me being silly worrying that ill get bored as less than the ninja, but its not far off so I think its one ill go for.

in that nice blue, decat, thinking Yoshi but we will see, get cdi remapped, then few cosmetics, like seat cowl, undertray, etc Wink

already bought a screen, ugly as fook, and scratched but massive touring one won it on ebay for 99p posted Smile cant complaint be handy for maybe longer trips

Agree with Matt. I had the Bandit 1200, cracking bike, for over 2 years and fancied a change. Ended up with the ZX almost by accident, and love it I love you  I love you  It does everything I need, it munches miles and will fly if I need it to thumbs  But with both bikes, as Matt says, most of the power is low down the revs. I rode the sons R1, massively quick bike, but all the power is high up the rev range, which isn't how I ride. In essence I'm saying, as is Tony, choose a bike that suits your riding style, or you'll have to adapt your style to the bike you choose. With the ZX, I can rev it high and it flies, but there's enough torque so I generally stay around 7k and it does exactly what I need, same as the Bandit did.
