where is the missing pound???

i have been trying to work this riddle out for a year now. can some one help......

You saw a shirt for £97. You didn't have the cash so you borrowed £50 from your dad and £50 from your mum. You bought the shirt and had £3 change. You gave your dad £1 and mum £1 leaving you with £1. So now you owe dad £49 and mum £49. £49 + £49 + your £1 = £99. Why isn't it adding up??

the pound isnt missing the pound you have should not be added to the 49 pounds you owe to eacg parent.
it should be taken away then you owe 48.50 each which is.........................................................................................................................................................................................97 quid.
you can do anything with numbers... how many digits do you have on yopur hands?
some would say 10 but coumt them off on the left hand 10 9 8 7 6 and 5 on the other hand make 11
