Sirianta 0 Posted March 2, 2011 Hey guys, can anyone give me more insight and background on Psalm 137:9? "Blessed shall he be who takes your little ones and dashes them against the rock"There is someone I know who misunderstands this verse and I just want to help them in a caring way.I just want to be prepared, 'cause I myself don't understand it completely.Love in ChristSirianta
Linda Irish 0 Posted March 2, 2011 The Israelites had already been captured and taken into captivity when this Psalm was written and but still harbored bitterness ~ they were bitter at remembering all the evil that had been done to them and wishing vengence on the ones who had done this against them. What the psalmist was saying basically, "the ones who get to pay you back (dash your babies against the rocks) will be happy to get their revenge" basically."Oh Daughter of Babylon, doomed to destruction, happy is he who repays you for what you have done to us-he who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks." Psalm 137 8-9Hope this helps with your friend.
Sirianta 0 Posted March 2, 2011 Thanks so much Linda!! It saddens me that some people bad mouths the bible if they don't understand the background of certain verses and wants to claim that this certain verse is God's words! They just read this one verse and think "oh! And you say God is a God of love" when they don't bother to get deeper into the word or the meaning. Thanks again! Linda Irish 0 Posted March 2, 2011 I agree Sirianta, and the truth is, the people in the Bible had bad attitudes and messed up just like we do, even the patriarch's we are all hopelessly flawed without the grace of Christ Jesus...Praise God for His kindness and longsuffering toward humanity, thats what I say!!!! Hope you have a great day!!!

christi85 0 Posted March 5, 2011 that's one of the reasons I love to see the fulfillment of OT scriptures in the NT. It helps me to understand how the new covenant we have through Christ is walked out. Thanks for asking Sirianta, and thanks for replying Linda :-)
