  1. Hey guys, my GN 250 has 4 valves. I've grinded 3 out of 4 successfully, tested for leaks using petrol, none. The 4th and final one, an exhaust valve is proving to be a pain, I've done it 5 times now and it's still leaking. The valves are new, I can't understand how it can be leaking unless somehow it's just a dodgy one? Any ideas? Also it struck me today are the valve seats on the head just part of the aluminium casting? Never thought about it before, I would have thought it'd be too soft
  2. Yeah like check the number of pins on the socket, and take note of the wire colours. Try and get as close a match as possible, sometimes you can get lucky and find another make that fits perfectly.... sometimes
  3. It'll harm you if it flies out the ignition barrel at 90mph Get a barrel for a different bike with a similar wiring set up and solder it together if necessary. Just an idea anyway. My mate did that when his ignition was screw-drivered
  4. I'm glad you like it, I love different. I'm one of those sorts who prefer something other than standard. Update: Today I've had a go at grinding an exhaust valve in. Now it has 4 Valves, 3 of which have ground in nicely bearing in mind I bought a new set of valves in the first place. This one I did today is a nuisance, this was the 5th attempt to grind it, each time it looks lovely, nice shiny ring and same with the seating. But when I do the weep test it's leaked quite badly by the next morning. I'm hoping tomorrow it hasn't leaked, Touch wood ey.

Cheers for the warm welcome everyone! And yeah Jack, sounds like a plan
  6. Ahh, I see. Might invest in some when my other GNs finished. Not bothered about the rat bike
  7. I tend to just give it a wipe, blast any grit off with WD if it's that bad and then use a bit of shell chain oil. Giving the excess a good wipe off afterwards. I hope I'm not doing anything wrong
  8. especially if you use dry lube and stop putting chain lube (grinding paste) on it I oil my chain fort-nightly because of the mileage I do, is there something I should know??
  9. What kind of grommets? I have a selection of different shapes and sizes from ebay, a 30-odd piece kit is only a couple of quid, useful to have
  10. Most places will sand blast before powder coating. I wouldn't recommend powder coating unless they sand blast it first. And powder coating will take to all metal Shame you're not around Nottingham, the guy who does it for me would do a luggage rack for twenty squid.
  11. If you need to replace your chain have a look for O-ring chains, last a lot longer than standard ones
  12. Now I can't provide a link with me being a new member BUT go on ebay and search word for word "5 Litres of Unleaded Petrol" I rolled
  13. you are a god-send! Been trying to find an English service manual for my bike for donkeys, cheers!
  14. If I had a spare 11 grand I would
  15. The bonus one haha, quality
  16. Cheers guys, hehe yeah a lot of folk have commented on the frame colour. To be honest I gave it to the powder coating guy and said "do it in the brightest red you have", to which it came back "s**t-box red" (That is it's actual name apparently)
  17. Hey guys, thought I'd show you my current project. A 1996 Suzuki GN 250, It's the purple bike in my Avatar, or was. So far it's all been sand blasted, powder coated. Nuts and Bolts all replaced with Stainless steel, Carbon steel and of course, nylocks. Pistons been cleaned using paraffin and a sonic jewellery cleaner (real handy kit). Hardest part so far was the petrol tank, the original tank was full of rust and dented, and I don't like making life easy so I decided I wanted a BIG tank, A GZ marauder tank. Took two brackets to do it. Anyway heres some photos So although GNs are renowned for being trollop I've tried to spruce it up a bit, what do you guys reckon?

Alright everyone, My name's Rich. I live in sunny Ilkeston in England. At the moment I own a Suzuki GN 125 Rat bike and a GN 250 which is a bit of a project. I love classic bikes, not a massive fan of sports bikes but I do appreciate them. Cafe' racers and bobbers are my sort of thing. I love to tinker, when I get a bike I have to strip it down and rebuild it PROPERLY. If anybody's from England and goes down MFN on wednesdays I'll probably see you down there. Peace
