During the 70's there was this thing called the "Oil Embargo" . The 1967 Oil Embargo began on June 6, 1967, one day after the beginning of the Six-Day War, with a joint Arab decision to deter any countries from supporting Israel militarily. Several Middle Eastern countries eventually limited their oil shipments, some embargoing only the United States and the United Kingdom, while others placed a total ban on oil exports. The Oil Embargo did not significantly decrease the amount of oil available in the United States or any affected European countries due mainly to a lack of solidarity and uniformity in embargoing specific countries. The embargo was effectively ended on September 1 with the issuance of the Khartoum Resolution.) All this did though was the Americans then made new rules to lower their fuel consumption rated of the cars made after. So you will see in the 70's a lot of American cars had options for engine capacities way.. WAY under the 4 - 5.7 litre cars they were used to. My uncle had for the shortest time had a late 70's 2.4l Ford Mustang at a time.. Some sections of this info were taken from what I know, knew and additions from Wikipedia just for confirmation. You'd be surprised. Lots of cars in this thread AREN'T muscle cars... like the Nomad for example. as for the Vairy8... it is aHot Wheels design based on a 1960's Chevrolet Corvair which is the only American car ever made to feature the engine at the back. .... but the VAIRY8 I think should NOT be in the muscle car thread as it doesn't use the original name... but that's just my opinion.
