SAT-NAV FOR BIKES

Recommended Posts

Has any-one have an opinion on the best (v.f.m.) Sat-Nav, system to buy ?.
My last one was a Tom-Tom 1. which is now defunct. I used it encased in a Givi waterproof case, and it served ok, as it had a ear-phone socket, enabling me to hear instructions; it seems the newer generation of gps, do not give this option,on the 'car' sat navs:...So the question is ..do I have to purchase the very expensive Tom-Tom rider?... average price about £270.-- £300-. Shocked
or do you folks know of a better system?, this model does provide a Scala, Blue-tooth set..... but would that mean I'd have to purchase a Blue-tooth helmet ShockedShocked ...Can any-on advise which is the best... I cant really justify that kind of expense, cos I don't go Touring these days..
What do you folk use.....(don't say A-Z BOOK)---'Kin awkward when ridin')
Ta.. no1

I use a Tom Tom Rider 2.Works well. The blue tooth headset just clips to your helmet and the ear piece fits in to lining.I also use T.Y.R.E to plan routes Smile

Thanks for the replies, Ithink I'll keep an eye open for a 'car sat-nav, with a earphone jack, but they don't seem to make 'em with that these days..
Mind you... the road-sign method IS the cheapest...I'll give you that,-Dick65 finger

Tomtom from the car, chucked under the seat / pocket / tankbag set to transmit via bluetooth, used with a standard pair of earphones plugged into a small bluetooth receiver in jacket pocket.

I've got a choice of 4 satnavs Smile. I Use the cheapo Binatone one for the bike mainly though. I modified a Garmin bike mount to take the Binatone bracket. Very secure and no chance of the satnav falling out because of the design. The navvy only cost £50 3 years ago which was cheap at the time. It has a headphone jack and Gatso warning too which was the seller for me. Don't really need it over here though.

Must admit, I use the "printed route in the top of the tank bag" Nav foflfoflfofl

Luxury! Back in the day I had some bike gloves with yellow armour on the back of the hands that I just used to write road numbers on in felt tip! thumbs

I must admit that I now find satnavs invaluable - I can get to pretty much most places in the UK without one, but it's the last bit from arriving at desired town, to getting to desired street where it saves so much time - or indeed when setting out from a strange place... like riding around Barcelona for an hour and a half trying to find the road to Ripoll.....
