I bought a 2011 T31 X Trail 2.0 DCi from Evans Halshaw in Darlington in March. They are a Ford Dealership but the car had a full Nissan service history from Bristol Street Motors also of Darlington, before I picked the car up it had a full service and MOT from Evans H
2 months into ownership the front brakes seized solid I just thought the service must have been sh*t fot them not to notice the brakes were so bad so just cleaned up the calipers and pads (crud and rust caked, slider pins bone dry and pads totally seized)until I could get replacements.
The pads and discs were on their limit so went to order new from a local reliable motor factors (DMF Darlington) they informed me that Evans H had ordered new discs and pads all round for this car 2 days before I had bought it then cancelled the order  scratch
So armed with this knowledge went back to E H to get their view and this was their response
When the vehicle came in to them on a trade-in their technician highlighted the need for new brakes/discs so they ordered them but it then went for an out-sourced MOT and came back with no advisories so they cancelled the order from DMF!
I was furious and high-lighted the obvious safety issue selling a car with sub standard brakes, over-riding their own mechanics advice and not even informing me!  angry
Anyway the best they would do was offer £100 for the discs/pads I had bought, which after 3 weeks I am still waiting to receive the cheque...... don't think its going to arrive  No
Am I over reacting here or do you just not get service from a main dealer like you used to! SadSadSadSad I know they look at their profit margins but seriously........

Our polo hasn't gone anywhere but vw from the day we bought it because I think they will do a top job , it hard to know what to do for the best , has the back street garages got the technology now days for modem motors ?

I was once in a VW main dealer waiting for a new key to be coded into my old Golf and overheard a conversation on the phone between a service manager and a customer, the customer had obviously called because her brake wear warning light had come on, the service manager said " well because the pads are worn down then the discs will probably need replacing as well, that will be £460, but I should warn you that seeing as the front pads are worn then the rears will probably need replacing as well and the discs will probably be worn below the limit so the total will be £845."
there was then a silence for a few seconds and the service manager said " well you will have to speak to one of our salesmen about that but due to the work required the value of your trade in will obviously be reduced"

never went back in there again.she would have been perfectly fine with a set of front pads for about £40.

You'd think buying from a franchise dealer you would have a little protection and a little better customer service because you pay more for for that service but not in my case No
I think if you have a good garage you can rely on to do a good job at a reasonable fair price you have cracked it......and are lucky! have fitted the new discs and pads and what a difference smooth precise braking thumbs maybe I should have spotted the state of the brakes before I parted company with my money but to honest it had just had a full service and mot so never thought there would be a problem + fell in love with the car and still think its the best car I have ever had! I love you
so I am going to keep after them for the money offered but have a feeling they are going to play silly buggers!
1 tell them how much i will slag them off to anyone who will listen
2 threaten them with a discussion with the D.O.T about the mot failure to spot the wear limit on the brakes and binding.
3 tell them Matt Alwright "on Watchdog" likes a good story Laughing
but will probably just have to take it on the chin and check things out properly next time.....heart ruling the head and all that! shake finger

I used to work for vardys when they were taken over by parent company pendragon who trade as evans halshaw amongst others. they don't give a f**k about people all they are bothered about is targets and profit. all big dealers are the same now. find a small garage with decent skilled trades people and stick with them they tend to care more about there service and reputation. or
buy a big van get it signed up with a something like" evans halshaw sold me a potentially dangerous car" park it legally outside there showroom the feckers will soon sort something out. if you diy mike at least you know its done right.

and dave you say backstreet and technology where i work isnt backstreet but its not a main dealer, and there isnt anything we cant plug in etc, specialist tools and my boss has them, its places like that who still rely on their good name who tend to do the better job imo.

when i only got to know my boss as he had a good reputation and i was willing to pay into that for m vans air suspension as i didnt want it bodged.

My great great uncle Reuben used to ride around with a horse and cart with a placard telling everyone how dishonest some trader was who had crossed him Laughing nothing new in this. Go to a car dealer, expect to be spanked.

Always have diy'd Ian but this car has more electronics than the starship Enterprise plus these DPF's bother me .....why fit something to a car that supposedly saves the planet from " climate change" ( don't start me on that rant censored ) then say once a week you have to do a sustained 60mph run for 30 mins to regenerate it..........crazy! head bang anyhow think you have a great point about finding a local independent at least the warranty will still be valid! thumbs
