  1. so today i got my fibreglass kit out and reinforced the seat. took all the old foam off the previous owner had glued on with carpet glue then put x3 layers of matting on the flat base and x2 on the rear cone, havent worked with fibreglass for a few years, forgot how hot it got! makes it heavier but its alot stiffer. dont want it to crack under my fat arse. top still needs lots of work , i need to make a base for the foam to go on so i can wrap it in leather
  2. cheers for that stan, might buy a tin but try it on some other parts first before i hit the cam cover etc.
  3. yeah still a bit sore matey but im still trying to carry on as it would do my head in if i just stopped work on it, cheers dick!
  4. oh forgot to say will be painting the blasted bits in this paint. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/350368032939?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_1464wt_754 cant find some pics of it on an engine at the mo but im thinking of getting the engine blasted and painting it in this.
  5. so onwards and upwards, went to collect parts from powdercoater this morning this is what ive got. had trouble with top yoke and right hand side caliper mount, top yoke there is more air in it than alloy so is bubbling like a bugger. so is going to redo them both. dropped off my petrol tank for blasting and primering, then i can see if it needs a bit of filler. walked to halfords 2nite to pick up a fibreglass kit for my seat unit. oh and fitted new rear wheel seal as wemoto couldent supply one, good old ebay. and last but not least, HUGE thanks to madsod as fuel cap and new oil filter turned up today free of charge , cant praise him enough, Thanks Matey.
  6. frame is good just needs welding together... you could go off some people you know
  7. well didnt quite go to plan today folks, took the frame to work today to cut the back end down abit, was cleaning some paint off some metal tubing i was going to use to hold the new rear loop for the frame together on the grinding wheel/wire wheel and it spat the tubing out and sucked my finger in! took it down to bone quite quickly! 4 hours down casualty, x-ray, tetanus shot and 6 stitches and finger is as good as new (well almost) said it will take 2-3 weeks to heel so im out of action for a while. still gonna pick up parts that have been powdered 2morrow and drop off my tank
  8. chad ebay is your friend http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=exhaust+springs&_sacat=See-All-Categories
  9. gaz you can request the information from the dvla, they have the right to refuse you but as long as you can provide "reasonable cause" why you might need the info then they normally say yes. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/AdviceOnKeepingYourVehicle/DG_4022067
  10. that is awesome, would love to be able to do that!
  11. petrol tank turned up today, deffo going to use this one as it suits the bike much better , even has some slight "cafe" style knee dents. ill drop it off for blasting on friday with some other parts. here are some pics, the seat that came with the bike suits it well i think. finally took the blind race out the swingarm, welded a bolt across it and yanked it out with me slide hammer while it was still warm. oh and rear wheel bearings came today too, gonna fit em in a bit.
  12. dont worry gaz you cant rush perfection matey, good things come to those who wait. i cant send my polishing for you to do mate, you barely have enough time to work on your bike let alone mine! cant make the ride out , im meant to be working but am trying to get out of it. looking forward to more updates as and when they come dude!
  13. liking the seat gaz, what you gonna do about the hole at the back? custom rear light? might have some polishing to send your way lol.
  14. cheers folks! , just bought some of these for the front disks as the old ones didnt have any tabs! and am gonna buy some 10.9 bolts to hold them on with. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400240810651?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_500wt_997 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350233697857&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:GB:1123#ht_2121wt_905 also won the xs750 tank on ebay, dont know which one im going to use yet but am leaning towards the 750 one as the 850 was is too big.
  15. so dropped some stuff off to the powdercoaters this morning and some other stuff off to be blasted , should get it back on friday... reassembled my calipers , which look good, stainless pistons are in the front ones. swingarm bearings turned up today. took one of the old races out of the swingarm (still got the blind hole to do, not looking forward to that. welded the foot on my side stand and burnt my finger in the process, blood sweat and tears (mostly mine) goes into these bikes folks....
  16. jesus gaz how many you had this time lol
  17. hmm ill have a think, i wouldnt butcher the loom as the one that came with the bike is in very good condition, and wouldnt want to cut it up so today i finally took the bearings out of the back wheel and ordered new ones, there is 2 one side and 1 the other, one of the seals you cant get anymore (unless you import it from the netherlands) but its not in bad nick so will reuse it. should be here sometime this week.
  18. oooh progress and pics ! thats what we like to see, good work gaz!
  19. cheers madsod , great site! ok im thinking of just running the kickstart and ditching the starter motor, making a custom loom with just the basics. would i be able to ditch the battery too or would i still need a small one?
  20. thats some miles! wish i went out on mine yesterday as it was sunny, now its pissing down boo!
  21. bit of a read but very interesting.... http://dcclassiccycles.dynamitedave.com/graveyard.html
  22. so after 4 hours of cutting, grinding and filing, have removed all the tabs from the frame i dont need. still need to shorten the rear frame loop as its far too long and sort out seat and battery tray mounts. and weld in some frame bracing in the corners but its getting there. took the lower head race out of the frame, had to weld a bolt across it so i had something to hit against, worked though.... oh gaz or madsod , do you know what this tab is for? , thought it was ground mount so left it be until i work out what its for.
