Before Matt Nelson had millions of online followers and subscribers, he was just a guy who loved dogs; three years later, he has used his love of canine companions to save the lives of dozens of pups. When Nelson was just a freshman in college, he started a “We Rate Dogs” Twitter account so he could post pictures of cute dogs and rate them on a 10/10 scale. That being said, Nelson has given every single dog on his channel a 10/10 rating – “because they’re all better than perfect.” “Dogs have always been a part of my life,” Nelson told GoFundMe. “When I was a bored college freshman and wanted to start a new thing, I knew that most people shared this love of dogs with me, so why not create an account that embraced that?” Since starting with several thousand followers, his Twitter account has accumulated 8 million subscribers. Some people might settle for internet fame, but as Nelson became more and more familiar with canine friends, he found an opportunity to use his passion project for good. Full Story / Pics

Smokers who are trying to quit may not always have to reach for a piece of nicotine gum to stave off a craving. Deliberately inhaling a pleasant aroma may be enough to reduce the urge to light up, at least temporarily, and could be used as part of an effective smoking cessation strategy. “Despite disappointing relapse rates, there have been few new approaches to smoking cessation in general and to craving relief in particular,” said lead author Michael Sayette, PhD, of the University of Pittsburgh. “Using pleasant odors to disrupt smoking routines would offer a distinct and novel method for reducing cravings, and our results to this end are promising.” The research, which was conducted by the American Psychological Association, was published in the Journal of Abnormal Psychology. For the first time in America since the procedure was approved for commercial use last year, scientists have successfully treated a patient for drug-resistant epilipsy with a technique called “deep brain stimulation” (DBS). DBS is a minimally-invasive surgical therapy that uses an implanted medical device, similar to a cardiac pacemaker, to deliver electrical stimulation to precisely targeted areas of the brain as adjunctive treatment for several neurological disorders – including depression. In April 2018, the FDA granted pre-market approval for Medtronic DBS therapy as adjunctive treatment for reducing the frequency of partial-onset seizures in individuals 18 years of age or older who are drug-resistant to three or more anti-epileptic medications. So, I see a topic somewhere that contains a You Tube video, so I watch or listen to it - then spot another one that seems interesting - then another and so on - until about an hour or so later I suddenly remember that I'm supposed to be replying to the first one ! It doesn't have to be a video either - it can be a link to a story or something else. Anyone else get sidetracked like this ?

(Solved) : Deleted Topics Not Removed For 1 Month ?
NanDee replied to NanDee's topic in Support Section
Thank you @SLGray Strangely enough - I moved the item back to it's original place so I could check if it was visible to me as a guest, but although it was still there in the 'hidden' forum - it didn't appear back in the 'original' one and has gone, so don't know what the 'month' thing was all about. For the moment anyway - issue appears solved. :) -

In another topic I reported having a problem with posting videos again. I deleted the topic that had the video link in - but I couldn't get rid of it. Finally had to create a hidden forum and move the topic there. Then noticed the 'bin' icon next to the title and message saying the topic was deleted 16/4/19 - will be permanently removed 16/5/19. So that means the topic is still there for a month after it's been deleted ! Does this mean that every topic I delete is going to have to be moved to a hidden folder for a month before it is finally removed ?

It’s never too late to find out more about your family – and this 48-year-old adopted woman from Georgia is certainly glad that she decided to investigate her biological family after decades of mystery. Amy Battle was adopted in a happy and loving home when she was just 5 months old. Though she had been happy growing up with her adoptive parents, she always wondered about her biological family. Her heritage remained a mystery until Battle’s oldest daughter finally convinced her to take a 23andMe Ancestry kit – and she was stunned by the results. Full Story Here

Tree Planting Drones Plant 1000's Of Saplings
NanDee replied to NanDee's topic in The 'Good News' Desk
I found this Here The project in Myanmar is all about community development and enabling people to care for trees, providing them with jobs, and making environmental restoration in a way that it’s profitable for people. The forest didn’t vanish by itself — the forest was cut down by local people. We train local people to be drone pilots, and they want that. They want to be in IT. They want to process data, they want to fly drones, they want to do agroforestry, they want to do regenerative agriculture, they want to create vertical farms, they want to do all this cool stuff. It’s not the ambition to be a seedling planter for $1 a day. So the drone project isn’t just helping the forests themselves, but the local communities too by helping provide new economic opportunities. -
Thousands of people have come together in order to support a 20-year-old woman who has been supporting her five younger siblings since their parents died. Samantha Rodriguez is the oldest of her brothers and sisters, ranging in age from 5 to 17. Since both of their parents died from cancer within the last five years, she has taken charge of their family. The Rodriguez kids moved to Orange County, Florida in order to live with their grandmother, and though it has been tough taking care of her siblings, Sam said that she was not about to let them be sent into the foster care system. Well that push seemed to do the trick. When he stopped pushing - the car kept going for a bit before the driver stopped it and got out. I've seen it loads of times where a car just needed a bit of a push to get it going. As long as she kept the engine ticking over when she got out - it would be fine after that.
