  1. Bizarre really- screen just went off and then nothing, fan was running, couldn't actually turn it off. Long story short, looks like the mobo or CPU is toast. Spiked the HDD so I can't recover a lot of stuff. Back on my old XP tower unit now but shitloads of catching up & recovery to try & do. All I can say is thank fuck I don't have a gas oven-I've about had enough one way or another.
  2. Missed this one. Yes a sad loss, a bit surprised my bro-in-law's band didn't do a tribute number last night when I went to see them. When I was courting my missus I played her older brother's records a lot, Cream, Hendrix, Beefheart et al. I guess in hindsight we have to admit they were of their day, but the sort of original musicians we see too little of these days. RIP Mr van Vliet
  3. I did have a pleasant surprise the other night as I still weigh 11 and a half stones despite raiding the Xmas goodies. Resolutions-maybe to stay off Facebook for another year and avoid brain corrosion, otherwise not really, I'm a good boy in any case. PS yes I was looking through my service notes for the ZZR & only managed about 6k miles last year. Won't be going abroad on it next year so looks like I'll have to attend a few rideouts to get that mileage respectable.
  4. Yeah I'm normally pretty good-I was trying to get a lot done that day & TBH wasn't paying enough attention.
  5. Got my reply yesterday after I submitted my driver details-happily I've got a Conditional Offer so looks likes £60 & 3 points. Hardly a victory but I was doing 42 in a 30 and was just a bit worried I might get a summons with all the sh1t that goes with it. Still can't believe I was speeding by that much but the camera never lies eh? Anyway two days work at the warehouse pays for that & I'm only on 6 points until next December. No need to get into a sweat, I can afford to go out & risk it
  6. David Alan Batt, dont be impressed i just had to google him sorry mate And he certainly is a Batty boy. Very talented band in their day though.
  7. I'm not given to namedropping, but I've appeared live on TV with the Queen & Prince Philip. When I saw this thread I got quite excited, thought it said Sylvian, as in Dave Sylvian. Thought I was the only Japan fan who dared to admit it, and it seems I'm right.
  8. Ssecond tin of Roses down the tubes-my other son's home now so it's lock up yer sweeties. And get some earplugs as all they'll be doing is shooting things on the PS3. Why could I not just keep my trousers fastened.........
  9. My son's at home so I'm dodging quite a few bullets by blaming him
  10. Can't fault you mate-we've had to resupply on Roses!
  11. Apologies to Itchy for my shameless plagiarism, but it's the right title. Anyone on here use a smartphone? http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/12/technology/personaltech/12basics.html?_r=1 http://icanstalku.com/ As they used to say on The Prisoner-"be seein' ya!"
  12. I remember posting this some time ago elsewhere. The original backing music was Muse "Map of the Problematique" but the rich twats made him take it down. Suited the vid much better, in fact I downloaded it & added the original soundtrack. Keep it on the phone so I can remind myself what it's like to be as mad as a box of frogs.
  13. See, I thought it might get a bit involved, that's why I left a coffee on the page.
  14. Well spotted mate. You know me, I like a bike to be lived in
  15. ...albeit the ZZR and unfortunately on the greasy grimy roads of Notts. Anyway, I don't have a car ATM so out she came, fired second prod (not been used for about 8 weeks), managed to wobble off the estate & get some air in the tyres after which not too bad. Only went to work so not really a rideout, but I did go the long way home just for the hell of it. Roads and tyres seemed, erm, uncommunicative but I stayed upright. There has to be a pic or two of course, so I stopped at Moorgreen Reservoir. You can just about see it's still frozen in parts. Nothing very special about it, although it has figured in the works of D H Lawrence notably as Nethermere in Sons and Lovers. The cottage behind the bike is said to be the place Lawrence had in mind as the keeper's cottage when he wrote Lady Chatterley's Lover. So that's where Mellors porked the lady of the house.
  16. I think Dave's posted some instructons somewhere but when you select a pic in P/Bucket there's an option for Direct Link. Click it and it should automatically copy itself to your pasteboard. Then in the forum itself find the "Image" tab (7th from right) and paste your link into there. Click OK & you have a pic Like that. That's what I was doing two weeks ago today. Seems like ages
  17. Judging by his/her single post and lack of response, I get the feeling we're taking this a little more seriously than the OP.
  18. Know what you mean Diane. It's that SoMed mentality that you can't help loving. But the flipside is as you've expressed it-Getting Stuff Done. I finished up shipping an exhaust system to Spain and fitting it to the car myself as I couldn't get the locals to grasp "I'm only here for a week" you win some you lose some......
  19. Good job-last time I was in Portugal most places didn't have a roof on. Do they ever actually finish anything?
  20. All a bit too cryptic for me. Have I missed a link or something?
  21. Well, it is December. And a white Christmas would be nice
  22. It might pay you to get a stethoscope, or failing that a long screwdriver held to your ear, to try & pin down more exactly the location of the knocking. Otherwise it's pretty much impossible to be of any real help
  23. Yep remember the Transatlantic Trophy-further back than that with the likes of Wil Hartog, Mick Grant et al. Who remembers Ron Haslam racing a stock VFR750 at Mallory, and finishing third?
