TDM 900 Clutch change
smilinjack replied to robbo65's topic in Advice on Repairing and maintaining your bike
I wouldn't imagine it's anything too different from most other bikes-wet multiplate clutch held together by half a dozen or so springs & bolts. May require a special tool of some sort if you need/intend to remove the clutch basket. Just make careful observation of the plates as you remove them-some clutches have slightly different tangs on the first and/or last plate. -

what do you think ?

Fitting Hagon springs looks a reasonable charge, prob works out at around £40-45 the actual fitting. Brake pad fitting looks a bit dear to me. IIRC a set of front pads is around £25, so looks like a charge close to £40 for fitting. Not bad for half an hour's work. BTW suppliers normally advise fitting same pad type front AND rear. HEL hoses-not sure what issues they might be. I think all HEL hoses have stainless banjo fittings and seem well received in the press and internet community as a whole. £115 fitted for Goodridge prob means paying them around £50 labour. Service & MoT-small service is a glorified oil change & fluid check which they appear to be charging you around £90 for, maybe more (I assumed £35 for the test)Depends how important a stamp in your service booklet is to you. All in that comes to pretty much £500 by my reckoning. A monkey for that little lot is not exactly robbery, but the fact is you & I could do all of that other than the MoT test and I only charge by the bacon butty, not the hour. Potential saving on labour in the region of minimum £150 I'd suggest, quite possibly more. -

Brake pads ?
smilinjack replied to Davehutch-hutchs's topic in Advice on Repairing and maintaining your bike
Sintered pads tend to increase disc wear. For how you ride Dave I'd go with EBC organic. I use them in both bikes and like the feel, and no prob about stopping the bikes in my experience. People often mistakenly believe that more "sporty" pads will stop them better, but it could even be the opposite if you don't use them properly ie HARD. Same with tyres, you need to take account of your riding style when making your choice. -

Just had this in an email. Any takers around Notts? We have arranged a meeting for those people from Nottinghamshire and surrounding areas that are interested in finding out about the work of the Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes and what’s involved in starting a new group. The meeting will be in the form of a presentation, followed by a question & answer session. I would expect that the meeting will last around 2 hours, depending on the amount of discussion. Please let me know if you can attend, so that we ensure we have enough seats etc. The meeting will start at 7pm, on Friday the 4th March 2011. Venue details The Black Lion Pub Main Road Radcliffe on Trent Nottingham NG12 2FD
