  1. Bit short notice mate, otherwise I was in. Got someone coming to work to spend money so maybe next time.
  2. OK Dave all done, although it did make me feel sort of... soiled, if you know what I mean.
  3. Frankly mate I'd go for a low miles VFR800 Fi. You'll get a stoater for £2000-2500. And they will last 100k miles easily. When I've got some spare dosh that's exactly what I'll be looking for.
  4. Nice old thing aren't they? Often referred to as the "Excess" 1100. Mate of mine had one and it was a bit of a handful. Only managed a 750 triple myself but I had some fun on it.
  5. Not had a V Tech but I had a proper VFR800 with the gear driven cams. Superb bike, as you'd expect as it was based on the RC45. There is a definite split in the camp about which one's better. What's your intended use? Sunday afternoon blast & occasional trackday-V Tech. Two up to South of France-VFR800Fi for me.

  7. Maplins are pretty good for that sort of thing-I've seen them in there I think. Only a few quid.
  8. Holy crap! You mean old Careless Chucker stayed on for two whole races? It has to be a first
  9. Yep, proof again that talent without cojones is not much use. Love the Gunners, but bottled it again.
  10. As a confirmed magpie, I never throw anything away unless absolutely necessary. Anyway, I've found an old 15Gb laptop drive and external caddy which allows you to connect it via USB. Recently I bought an upscaling DVD player with USB port. Guess what? The drive connects to the DVD player so I can now watch downloaded movies easily and for no outlay I love being a cheapskate Could be a good way to get yourself a cheap external drive for anything
  11. Could maybe put that to good use, & I'm only at Annesley. PM me some detail if you don't mind
  12. OK sorry, quick translation O/S = Operating System Billy boy = Bill Gates, Microsoft owner. GUI = Graphical User Interface. Open source=no charge for software, it's all free to download & modify as you see fit. Mozilla's Firefox web browser is one such example. Linux=different operating system to Windows. It works differently leaving it far less open to attack from Trojans & other viruses. The particular "model" I tried is called Ubuntu. It feels more like an Apple Mac to use. And I'm 53 so it's not an age thing folks I guesss looking at the initial responses I'm not going to get much feedback on here!
  13. Alan, if you haven't already done so, sign up here and I'm sure you'll get some help. Dave, hope I'm OK punting another forum here? Cheers,Alan
  14. I've reinstalled O/S (Vista) on my desktop again this weekend after further problems and thought I'd put a spare drive to good use by installing Ubuntu and giving it a whirl. Early days but I rather like it. Nice feel and GUI, and of course open source so free, and largely virus proof. Certainly compared to Billy boy's overpriced tat. Anyone else used it and if so, what's your opinion?
  15. Hej do Sweban. I used to visit Sweden often for work in the 1990s. Malmo, Boras, Ostersund-as far north as Umea. welcome
  16. Wow, so in the daytime they're normal I'm self employed which these days largely equals unemployed. When I make late night/early morning posts it's usually when I'm sitting awake wondering how I'm going to pay for everything
  17. Only grounds for instant dismissal are gross misconduct eg grabbing someone's tits, violence or theft. Speak to someone like ACAS before you write this one off. There should have been a discplinary procedure which clearly hasn't been followed.

    How cool is this?

Jeez Rose, have you gone & got fairgrounditis? What with this and flashing brake lights, I'm starting to worry for you
  19. Got a feeling they're illegal. These bloody cyclists insist on using them on the front-drives you mad.
  20. Toying with a Sprint or Vfr800 myself, just gonna do this year on the B6 to get my no claims. VFR800 (gear driven motor) is an absolute peach. I'm trying to save a bit to get another one. I rode an early Sprint, around 2000 model IIRC & it felt like a tractor compared to my Honda. Stonking brakes mind.
  21. Nice one Rose-your head's safe & your bum's cool. As you said, result.
  22. SV1000S is a good alternative, prob a better overall bike and cheap as chips. FYI main weak points with Firestorms are reg/rectifier, common with a lot of Hondas, and cam chain tensioners. And of course extreme thirst and poor tank range.
  23. Saw him race there many years ago. It's a stoating track BTW
