  1. That's a shame Dave but at least you have seen a specialist and it can be repaired I am surprised more of us aren't having the same problem or even worse given the state of our roads glad your getting it sorted ok though mate!
  2. Just to conclude this thread spent a lot of my annual leave helping strip and rebuild the top end cleaned out the valve cover replaced the broken exhaust camshaft, caps, spray cover and tappets. Because all the tappets moved freely and the valve stems looked in line and my brothers lack of money against my and probably your better judgement didn't do a full strip down Anyway built it back up turned it 2 full 360 revolutions by hand off the crank and nothing felt wrong. So dropped the oil changed filter and put some semi 10w40 in with some flushing oil liberated from Haveugot1 (thanks Mark) then fired her up,,,,,,,purred like a kitten ran on fast idle for 20 mins dropped the oil out and changed it again. We decided to take it for a short spin round the block......good power and smooth gearchange next up the duel carriageway about a 4 mile run, about 3 miles in the engine limp mode comes on and a loud banging from the engine, no power and ground to a halt anyway 4 hours later the RAC recover us back home, we think a oil way might have become blocked and seized the camshaft again and that's it he's had it with cars and its going for scrap The moral of this long story (sorry) is service your bikes/cars regularly and never buy a vehicle unseen, but that's just common sense, isn't it...............?
  3. Not a tad jealous are we Mark ...............cos I am! Its already a distant memory
  4. Great info Garry, especially the walk round procedure
  5. Puig - same make as on my Bandit Mark good quality but a tad expensive! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Double-bubble-screen-Puig-Suzuki-GSX-R-1300-Hayabusa-h-light-smoke-windscreen-/400568034796?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item5d43b725ec
  6. The only good thing dave is my step dad is a top bloke. nice to hear mark aint it funny how a thread about mp3s could spark comments about family situations...as it happens my dad left when i was 3 and only saw him once in a blue moon until i was 14ish then was a bit more regular ended up moving in with him when i was 18 and the rest is ancient history Same here Ross my dad left when I was three and haven't heard from him since I have my own family now and that's all that matters to me, Oh! and some very good friends I have made from this very forum. It is very strange how threads develop

  9. At least you didn't get as far as ordering a new fuel pump Dick
  10. Hi Stue back its good to know your ok but as stated we all have lives outside of the forum so no need for apologies mate! and now Marks bought a lesser bike that he doesn't mind getting wet it would be good to have run down next season and say hello.
  11. I put a K&N panel filter in the Bandit Dick and it ran terrible, very erratic idle and flat spots could be that running my Scorpion can without baffles and a free flowing air filter was to much without re-jetting, one or the other would probably have been fine anyway don't let me put you off mate, may work well on the ACE
  12. Looks a lovely location Lee and that beach.......wow! BUT your braver than me, them horses look evil mate!
  13. Thanks Jezza I think you are right according to the wiring manual the rev counter wiring does indeed go to the cdi then there is another feed to a pick-up coil. It was the wrong regulator for the bike and the wires had melted at the block connector I now have the correct one fitted and a healthy 14.4v at approx 3000 revs. Skelly (Alan) has an old rev counter off something so am going to try and connect this up and try to eliminate either the wiring or rev counter to be the problem @ fr499y - Matt had a look can't see anything like a pickup at the front and am getting power to the needle as it rises to 2000 revs as soon as the ignition is switched on, so don't think it is a broken wire (but what do I know lol) I do not believe it is supposed to rise like this and think Jezza could be right about the rev counter electronics being damaged due to the wrong rectifier/regulator fitted anyway as and when i find the cause I will post up (if it was my Bandit I would be more concerned )
  14. Iconic planes Dick, great pictures, the amount of models I made of these planes as a youth was ridiculous!
