Honestly, like I mentioned to danielh, this car is supposed to be done by now. But the shipping for my decal seems to be taking forever.

Nevertheless, here are some final WIP pictures.

To answer jhc's questions, no I didn't use a custom wheel axle. I retained the current Maisto wheel axle, but I made the axle groove wider to fit the axle. However, this compromises the roll. So the wheels do roll, but it is rough and restricted.


Also, I cut off some parts of the wheel cup on the inside so that the tyres will fit into the body's wheel well.


Painted the panel lines and vents.


I painted the lights too, I used smoke colour as base and then clear red for the rear lamps to give it a more realistic look.

besides the interior, what i like best is the repaints wheels and rubber tyres. This will gives the GTR looks fierce and sporty.

nice one bro elgee... but no offence but the widebody kit seems to look uneven... maybe need more sanding?? because from my experience doing those putty work, u may not see it uneven until u have painted it... well normally i also dont mind of that... hehe..

no offense taken, in fact i agree with your assessment. i think sanding by hand has given rise to the uneven (or slight roundness) especially on the rear part of the body kit. it wasnt that apparent until after i sprayed the yellow, but i will say it is inexperience on my part.

i will attempt to rectify this problem when i gloss the body, giving it a thick gloss coat then sanding it smooth before a final gloss coat. here's to hoping it works. what do you think, good idea? cheers!

hurm.. nice idea there.. maybe it will be a lil bit smoother after that.. never tried it before... hehe.. but another trick to cover up the uneven surface is to go with dark colors.. haha.. thats explain why i always use dark colors on my custom cars.. haha..

yeah i just glossed it and tried it just now. the gloss coat is now a smooth surface but you still can see the slightly uneven paint below. it all starts with the base i guess. i learnt some important things with this custom:

1. It all starts with the base; slow and patient putty work will pay off major dividends at the end. More work in the beginning means a whole lot less work at the end.
2. PAINT COVERS NOTHING!
3. GLOSS IS TRANSPARENT IT ALSO HIDES NOTHING!

Anyway, this part is typed in GREEEEN to let you know that the WIP for both our first GTR customs stop here. The full completed pics will be posted in a new thread sometime in the next few days (look out for it!).

And this part in BLUEEE is to tell you that, this marks a new chapter in our GTR co-custom build. We will now both move into customizing a second GTR, check it out here soon too!

Okay, danielh and I are back after a week's break. Now part 2 of our co-custom GT-R will begin!

After a week break on our twin GTR co build part 1 completed, we're back again. Ok, here's mine. This time my custom GTR needs to have some cutting at the rear spoiler. But i'm having some difficulties here because as i do not have the dremel cutting tools as elgee has. After giving some thoughts , i've decided to cut it anyway using hand saw manually which i've been dicussed and advised by elgee.

There is no sawing or cutting angle for me to execute as the spoiler attached to GTR casting are very close.Finally i've managed to cut it by using plyer to clam the casting with the rear side facing upward. From the top of the casting, i've sawing the spoiler very consistently and slowly, This took me about 15 minutes to cut it off with every 5 minutes stop interval just to check the cutting line are in alignment. My advise, do it patiently or else you will end up hurting your fingers if the hand saw jump out of the cutting line.




After the cutting process complete, some hard sanding applied here to smoothen the cutting area. The other works included are drilling some holes for rear spoiler and the top for fixing antenna .


next stage will be removing of casting paint.

custom needs patient, there's no short cut work. As elgee mentioned earlier more works at the beginning, less work and problem at the end. I think it's about 30 minutes sanding. Usually sanding for 5 to 10 minutes and stop and look for the irregularities surface especially the common casting line which are standard nowadays.

Here's my continuation of my GTR from last weeks. After the sanding, some primer coats applied here.As usual after the primer coats drys, another round sanding applies to smoothen the coating surface. Next, the white coat of spray paints.



After that, some cutting of masking proceed. Some small slice of cutting and masking applied one by one.
This takes me about half and hour to mask all the side of the casting.



Next, the second coating of red colour spraying applies.
All the area exposed are meant to be in red colour as in my custom GTR.


As the red colours dries, the masking area reamoved, you can see the actual lining and stripe that i wanted in this way.


The 2nd coating complete here as all the masking have being removed.


Well, thats all for today. next progress will be more masking work again.
